Product Description

Normal Eating® is a uniquely effective step-by-step program to free people from compulsive urges and emotional eating. It's not a quick fix, but it's a real fix. You not only lose weight, you become a true normal eater. Many people who've failed to solve their eating problems in the past finally succeed with Normal Eating.

The Normal Eating® method draws from the Zen principle of mindfulness, 12-step wisdom on addiction, intuitive eating (the non-diet approach), cognitive psychology, and solid nutrition. Author Sheryl Canter analyzed the natural recovery process and broke it into stages, with each stage building on the last. The result is a gentle, step-by-step guide that greatly improves the odds of success.

The book lays out the program in detail. An accompanying online support group lets you ask questions of the author, and apply the ideas to your own life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond normal! 3 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback
I really must say that before i bought this, i thought that it would just tell me what i already knew, as i have done much reading on cravings, overeating etc. But, this book, to me, just seems like the most natural, healthy and the only way that people should lose weight. It even explains why we want to overeat and crave food from the perspective of our evolution etc. and explains why many people aren't successful on 'diets'. It somehow has made something 'click' in my mind about eating and im so glad i have read it. Thank you so much Sheryl Canter :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book! 27 April 2010
By Sarah
Format:Paperback
Having been a yoyo dieter for most of my life I have reached a point where I just can't face losing and re-gaining the same weight over and over again. I bought this book after reading books by Roth and Beyond Chocolate but it wasn't until I read this book that it really started to hit home. I now feel a sense of relief that I can love myself for the way I am and I don't have to diet ever again! I feel a great sense of freedom and happiness and I have lost weight without dieting.

I would recommend this book if you are fed up of repeating the same patterns over and over again and want to start living your life

5.0 out of 5 stars A book to keep by your side 19 July 2010
By Loulou
Format:Paperback
This is a very practical guide to healing your relationship with food forever. Written in a no-nonsense style, this is definitely a keeper. I find questions keep cropping up as I use the principles and work through the stages, but I can always find the answer either in the book or on the online forum. I go back and read over sections again and again and keep finding that the different nuggets of wisdom stand out for me at different times. A must-read for anyone who has ever struggled with weight problems or the dieting mentality.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some Wonderful Stuff Mixed With Hard Sell 30 Jan 2012
By SarahD
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Having struggled for about 4 years with binge eating I have read many books in the field of normal and intuitive eating so I wasn't really expecting to learn anything new but I can truly say I think it is the best book I have come across on the subject. I feel full of renewed hope about putting into practice the principles of normal eating and I feel happy and excited about the future. Having read the whole book today I cannot offer any testimony about the longevity of the principles but there is a lot of sound advice and it really challenged my beliefs on the subject (in a good way).
Thoughout the book the author plugs the online forum at normaleating.com. Over and over again thoughout the book she stresses the importance of joining this online community and sharing with likeminded people. I went to the website to join and found that it requires a monthly membership fee of $10. This has irritated me as it is an open sharing forum which requires little maintenance. I believe this kind of support should be free and sponsored by advertisers. Unfortunately it has retrospectively jaded the book for me because it now just feels like one big sales pitch. This is why I've knocked off 2 stars, otherwise it would have got 5.
