Product Description

Product Description

This is a study of initiation into the New Testament, which attempts to reveal a synthesis of the "liberal" emphasis on repentance, the "evangelical" emphasis on faith, the "sacramental" on Baptism and the "pentecostal" on the Spirit. These "four spiritual doors" are then related to conversion and regeneration. The second section provides an exegetical study of two dozen crucial or controversial passages, questioning many traditional interpretations. The final section on pastoral application demonstrates the inadequacy of much modern evangelistic counselling.

5.0 out of 5 stars In my all time top 5, 25 Oct 2002
This review is from: The Normal Christian Birth (Paperback)
If you've read David Pawson you will expect a tightly argued, clearly and lucidly structured and presented approach from arguably the best Bible teacher of this generation. This book is no exception. Clarity of insight and non technical wording come as standard with Pawson.

The key framework is understanding repentance, faith, baptism in water, and baptism in the Holy Spirit as elements of Christian birth. He cuts through non Biblical contemporary evangelical terminology that often muddies the waters, and also provides an exegetical approach to a whole host of new testament passages in light of the theology presented. Each of the four elements is taught with clarity and insight, so I go back to them time and again e.g. if speaking at a baptism.

Most books on the subject are not without controversy. The practical implications of Pawsons conclusions are quite profound and far reaching. However I havent read better. Prepare to be challenged!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Future Christian Classic For Effective Christian Living, 3 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Normal Christian Birth (Paperback)
This book is destined to become a Christian classic! If you are a Christian and haven't yet read it do so immediately! It covers the basics of full 'Christian Birth'. A hasty 'decision for Jesus' at a Billy Graham Crusade can be a poor foundation for living, instead a Christian needs to be certain about Repentance, Believing in Jesus, Water Baptism, and Receiving the Holy Spirit - this book will help. It also looks carefully at the so-called 'problem passages' that many Christians struggle with.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Normal Christian Birth, 22 Nov 2011
This review is from: The Normal Christian Birth (Paperback)
As always, David Pawson is outstanding.

The Normal Christian Birth describes the four steps to a biblical initiation into salvation.

The book is thoroughly researched, comprehensively explained and easily comprehended. Most of all, it's biblical - and theologically balanced.

The implications of well trained and theologically equipped 'midwives,' capable of properly birthing new believes into God's family, are profound and deeply necessary in today's world of the 40 second 'sinner's prayer' altar call.

Although voluminous (and at times - theologically speaking - extremely in depth), the book is definitely worth a read.

I'm a 34 year old congregant of an independent charismatic evangelical church, reading the work of an older generation Baptist stalwart, and here's my verdict: read the book; it's message is timeless.

I have been deeply changed by Pawson's work - again.

Blessings,

Morgan
