Product Description

Non-Resident & Offshore Tax Planning 2011/12 was recently described in an editorial in The Times as "an authoritative review of the topic". It is absolutely essential reading for anyone interested in becoming non-resident to avoid UK income tax and capital gains tax, as well as those thinking about living or working abroad.

By becoming non-resident or moving your assets offshore, it is possible to completely eliminate your tax bill. There are, however, certain pitfalls to negotiate.

The latest 2011/12 edition of this acclaimed book guides you through exactly what you can and cannot do in plain English.

The author, Lee Hadnum LLB ACA CTA is a rarity among tax advisers, having both legal and chartered accountancy qualifications. After qualifying as a prize winner in the Institute of Chartered Accountants entrance exams, Lee went on to become a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) and worked for Ernst & Young for several years. Lee is the author of several Taxcafe tax guides including Tax Saving Tactics for Non-Doms, The World's Best Tax Havens, Using a Company to Save Tax, The Investor's Tax Bible and Selling Your Business. Subjects covered in the 2011/12 edition include:

* How to become non-resident and pay less tax.
* Full details of the new statutory residence test from 2012.
* How business owners can reduce their tax bill.
* How to completely avoid capital gains tax in the UK and abroad.
* All the important traps & pitfalls to avoid.
* How to make the necessary distinct break with the UK to avoid tax.
* Tax rules for non-domiciled individuals, including changes planned from 2012.
* Important inheritance tax planning tips.
* Advice for overseas property investors.
* How to benefit from Double Tax Relief.
* The benefits and dangers of offshore trusts.
* The pros and cons of offshore companies.
* How to make the most of double tax treaties.

I've always wanted to know about tax planning with offshore trusts and companies and finally I understand what they are all about. A great book - clearly written with lots of examples and tax planning ideas. also very useful if you are planning on living or working overseas or are non-domiciled.

Having been an avid reader of Taxcafe's tax books for many years, this book was my first port of call when considering moving abroad. Although we have not yet "taken the plunge", I am confident that I now know enough to make an informed decision, all without having spent thousands speaking to a tax specialist. The book is easy to digest and a welcome addition to my bookshelf.

Warning to U.S. Citizens 14 Jan 2012
By Dittohd - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I just received this book in the mail and was flabbergasted to find that this book is written, based on my initial browsing, for UK taxes based on UK laws and policies. Not only doesn't it say this in either the book's title or description, the only mention of the acronym "UK" on this entire web page at the time of this review is in the publisher's name.

I suppose if you're a U.S. citizen and have the UK in your future plans as a resident or a non-resident who visits regularly, this book might be appropriate. I am angry that the book was marketed and sold to me by Amazon.com on their U.S. website without better clarification of the book's content, making it inappropriate to most buyers at this site. Sure, some of the information in the book, like limited info on some tax havens based on UK taxes, probably applies also to U.S. citizens under certain circumstances. But reading through all the info that doesn't equally apply concerning U.S. taxes and laws and policies, without knowing the differences and similarities between the two countries' laws and policies, and trying to discern which info is also applicable to me as a U.S. citizen has to be somewhere between difficult and impossible to say the least. :-(
