5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book in a great series 25 July 2012
By Aunty L
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved this book, read it in one night, and ended up going back and re-reading the earlier books again the next day (which doesn't often happen with the size of the queue of unread books in my kindle). There's a lot of magic, but what I really love in these books is the characters. The series is as much about family as about magic. There's a lot of affection and sadness in Marcus's story, and some humor as well to lighten the load.
The story delves into why grumpy Uncle Marcus is sometimes sad around kids, due to the loss of his brother while astral travelling when he was young. The appearance of a mystery baby on his doorstep with some astral travelling talent forces him to confront his pain and fear (and bad attitude to women's work), and it helps to heal him in the long run, supported by the whole witching community in Nova Scotia.
I simply can't wait for the next one. Enough said.

This is a rolling story of a man under great pressure, internally and outside. Realm becomes sanctuary for man and child. With the help of the characters we know and a young witch coming into his powers. Old hurts start to heal and a way is created to protect others in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great beginning 13 Mar 2014

Read this book very warily, as it didn't seem quite my thing. Was I wrong! A great start to what has become one of my all time favourite series of books. You are grabbed from the start, and welcomed into a different world, and a new family, full of warmth, gossip and fun, mixed into a swirl of emotions. Uplifting, heartwarming, and, best of all, just the start of a whole series of books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Nomadic Witch 5 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
These books continue to delight - they are primarily about a group of people who just happen to have a few extra powers. But the richness of these books is due to the community spirit that pervades through them. Debora Geary has managed to write a book that deals with falling in love but not with two adults but that emotional roller-coaster ride that is a new baby. How Marcus fell in love with Morgan was absolutely brilliant and brought a tear to my eye on more that one occasion. Actually I think I stared crying at 28% through and continued to sniffle through to the end.

There are some parts that I don't fully comprehend but then I'm not a coder or a hacker. However, it is not essential that I understand these parts because you will get an explanation but you will also see that it is the person behind the skills that makes the difference, not just the skills themselves.

This series just gets better and better. I loved Marcus all the way through this but I have to admit that the Fairy Godfathers stole the day slightly. The subject of Marcus and Evan I won't go into detail about except to say that it was perfectly written and dealt with any issues completely.

Absolutely fantastic book but be warned, if you're slightly soppy (or a lot as in my case) then you may need a handkerchief as you read this.

5.0 out of 5 stars great 31 Dec 2013
By Twister

Have read all of the "a modern witch" series, and several of the "which Central series", and a few add on's. These stories and tails are inspiring, fresh, fun, loving, hopeful, and just a great read, A little bit of apprehension added to give a few heart stopping moments, which just adds to the story telling. These stories are suitable for both teenage and old age readers alike.
I thoroughly recommend this author, for when you are drained from all those heavy and meaningful books. Very Refreshing

Another excellent book in the series:). Although you can read each book onm its own I would recommend you read them in order. My step-daughter recommended these books to me and told me the order in which to read them....they flow together excellently.

Absolutely love them:)

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it and Weep 5 Sep 2013

I started reading these on my mother's recommendation and found myself being unable to read them in public.

The characters are extremely well drawn, the humour, the sadness and all the other human emotions are all played out here in a form which had me laughing out loud or fighting tears (and sometimes losing) no matter where I was.

There is not a single volume in this current series that I would not unhesitatingly give a full 5* rating to and that includes the two little in-between notelet types that are also available.

The families in these books are strong, modern (hence the series title) who mix modern life and witchcraft and overflow with love and support for each other and all others in their community. My favourite characters are Nell, Aervyn and Marcus (because I can be a grump too).

Any book that can make you forget where you are within 5 pages of picking it up is, in my humble opinion, a literary work of art - and all 7 of these qualify in spades.

As mentioned above, I found that I had to read them in private - mainly because a grown woman laughing and crying alone in public sometimes raises awkward questions.
