Brilliant album. If I had to pigeonhole it, dubstep comes closest but that would sell it a bit short as it combines the heaviness of proper dub(step) with the a bit more upbeat tempo of UK garage. This is one of the reasons I like it so much, it can be quite doomy at times but it does always have a certain energy to it that I miss in most other dubstep tracks. In 'Grounded' there's a vocal sample saying 'housestep', which I can't imagine being randomly chosen as it would be a perfect description for this album and several others (check out Dubstep Allstars Vol. 6 as well).

One thing I noticed when I first played was how rich the bass sounds. There are slight shifts in tone and multiple bass lines going in different directions (no I'm not on pills), which is something you won't notice when listening to it on your laptop.

Stop reading and buy it if you're into slightly complex, bassy music..

Great beats- sexy and haunting 16 Feb. 2011

Headhunter Nomad is a very good album. Others have called it dub-step, but in my mind it is not so neatly defined. The beats are infectious and so memorable. The production quality is impeccable. The album has echoes of Cassius 1999 but in a much more stripped down way. It also reminds me of some work by Ellen Allien. The track "prototype" is in my top 20 all time best electronica tunes. There is an almost spooky, jarring, cinematic way the rhythms stop and start that reminds me of Italian cinema. The sound is mysterious, sexy and haunting. The music certainly has a dark edge and sparse sound to it that may not be for everyone. This album is best enjoyed on a good sound system or with decent headphones to hear the range of sounds and quality of the samples. I only give this album 4 stars because the last couple of songs start to blend together. Nonetheless this album is in frequent rotation and one of my recent favorites. I would give an extra half star for the slick packaging and graphic design as well.
