If you're not interested in surfing and downloading, this is an excellent little phone with a fantastic battery life - around 50 plus hours of music playback, and will remain on standby for weeks. It's a basic but responsive touchscreen which is simple to use, and has many attractive features. It is under 100g in weight and you can hardly notice it in your pocket.Great radio reception - keeps its signal well, and the music player is fine although it has no equaliser or even basic tone controls. Will only accept MP3 files.

Ordered from a seller in Malaysia and it arrived with some kind of dusty residue underneath the touchscreen. Took it to my nearest Nokia repair shop and had it cleaned in minutes for free. However the technician who repaired it told me that the problem would keep coming back. Sure enough, within a couple of weeks there was more dust under the screen.I went online and found that there are quite a few dissatisfied Nokia customers out there with dust under the screens of their Asha 501s. Try contacting Nokia support and you won't get very far, as they are only interested in fobbing you off to your local Nokia Care Centre. If this is a common problem then surely the problem lies with the manufacturer and not the retailer.Nokia need a kick up the arse.

This is a great little phone; it's solid, practical and - contrary to current trends - quite small. It's almost cute.
If you need a reliable phone that you only need to charge once a week or so, then this one is for you.

Pros:
- great price
- small size
- good battery life
- smooth OS, easy to use
- decent apps for email, facebook, twitter, whatsapp as well as a minimalistic web browser good enough to check BBC News or the weather site
- HERE maps which works great considering there is no GPS
- it's one of the last good Nokia phones

Cons:
- well, it's not a smartphone stricto sensu, it's advertised as a feature phone so it lacks GPS, 3G capability
- really bad camera for a Nokia (maybe it's better in Asha 503)
- bad or no support for many European languages (it's focused more on Asia)

All in all very happy with my purchase.

Having ordered it from Amazon UK I naturally assumed that it would be aimed at the UK market, so was surprised to find it was fitted with a continental plug and instructions in German. Failed to find a conversion plug in any local shops, and realised that printing out a large number of pages of instruction from the internet would cost me; so I returned the 'phone.
