Where to start. I went through pretty much all the platforms. Couple of years with Blackberry, couple of months with Android, 3 years with iPhone(s), Windows Mobile many years ago (horrible experience) and even Palm. If I look to last years, iPhone 3Gs and 4 was great. Then I realized that I need bigger display. Looked around tested couple of devices and ended up with HTC Titan as a first WP7 experience. I liked that device, but there was annoying bug with muffled voice during call and so I got rid of it and bought Galaxy Note and quickly changed for Galaxy Nexus.

Now, coming to Lumia 900. I have to say, it has less cores, less memory, smaller display, lower resolution. So is that fail? No absolutely not. I am honestly saying, that using Lumia is much more pleasure then Nexus. It is fast, I like the WP7 concept. It is limited on certain things, but nothing that would be extremely problematic for me. Phone size including display is just about that. Exchange sync is obviously flawless (not like on Android), integration with social networks is brilliant. Keyboard typing is absolutely fantastic and I couldn't find a keyboard on Android where I would be able to type so precisely as on WP7. I had in my hands for a day Lumia 800 and this is definitely more mature product in all aspects. Battery life seems to be average, 1 day non problem with push active for Exchange, Gmail, active chat and quite heavy usage. I expect it gets a little better as the battery settles down. If you like WP7, there is no better device now. I haven't tested camera yet, but I assume it is going to be more than acceptable. There are 2 things I see as a problem. First is the little metal thing around camera lens which gets scratched very quickly. The other is price of the device.

Having been an iPhone 3GS owner who foolishly updated ios all the way to 5 and was left with a paperweight, I started looking for a suitable replacement.
I didn't want the iPhone 4S seeing as it will be replaced in 4 months with the 5 and I don't like Android I was left with looking for a Windows Phone.

The Lumia stood out the most and I had the choice between the 800 and brand new 900 (which I chose).

As I use my phone for work purposes, email was essential (I use POP3 and OWA).

Setting up the POP was easy, however getting my OWA email was nothing short of a NIGHTMARE.

Basically, if you have a self-signed certificate, chances are you will have MAJOR problems with an error message stating there is a problem with your security cert which will not let you access your outlook email.

After over 2 weeks of head scratching I finally got it sorted with a .pfx certificate.

So, having now got a fully functioning phone, I can safely say this is the best phone I have ever owned.
It is intuitive to use, good to look at and not an iphone!

Yes, the app choice is limited but as this is a business phone, I don't care about angry birds et al.

The Nokia Drive Sat Nav is the quickest sat nav I have ever used. Once you download the uk map it finds your destination almost instantly and calculates your route just as quick. My Garmin is now obselete.

IE is pretty good and Bing search and local scout are also good.

Only complaint really is that if you visit a website in IE you cannot click on a phone number to call it, you can copy it but you cannot paste a number into the dialer - this is a bit of a pain but not the end of the world.

Would I buy another? YES
Why only 4 Stars? 2 Reasons: 1) Getting outlook email to work should not be as difficult as it was. 2) Its annoying I cannot paste numbers into the phone dialer.

Modern-day cell phones have gone off the rails so to speak and have totally lost identity as to what they should be all about in the first place. To my mind a cell phone or if you like a smart phone should start off with exactly what is required to do in the first place, to listen; to hear and to converse in the normal way. Anything else is nothing more than bells and whistles. For example: it seems nowadays that the big selling point of smart phones is supposed to be the more powerful the camera, all the better for it. I could go on and on but I think you understand my point.Without naming names, I have used a number of phones over the years. I can now say quite honestly that this is the best smart phone I've ever used because it's gone right back to its roots and gives a more than satisfactory performance on its basics although it's also got as many bells and whistles as you would wish to have.

If you are the under 25 age bracket, you will no doubt consider this phone to be not clever enough. However, if you're like me, in the over 40s brigade you may look on this phone as being exactly what you wanted in the first place. Good hands-free speaker: easy usage of the phone and a pleasure to converse hands-free. Basically, I'm not interested in the other functions although any of them could come into use at any time if I choose to. Being a Windows phone, it also has all the functions connected with Microsoft such as browser; email; and office, which gives it an excellent start over other smart phones. Perhaps I should also mention it has an excellent camera although again I don't regard camera phones as being cameras. This is probably due to being an advanced photographer anyway with real cameras.
