I bought this to use with a Lumia 920, no clue whether other phones suffer from the same issue.

The good: NFC works well and the app it launches is quite convenient.

The bad: The wireless charging doesn't provide enough juice to the phone to keep it charged while I'm using the HERE Drive app. Sure it lasts a little longer than it otherwise would but if you're only using the wireless charging from the car holder, the phone runs out of battery eventually which makes the main functionality of this holder effectively useless. The bottom of the holder thankfully has a hole where the phone's micro-usb charging port is so you can still connect the phone to a regular charger, but then again so would any other cheaper car holder.

The only reason I gave it two stars instead of just one is the NFC functionality.

Read a number of reviews and after some thought took the plunge to try it with my Lumia 925. Easily charges phone when not using apps but only maintains charge when using apps such as drive or internet radio, but at least does not loose charge.
Charger fixed directly to dash board without the use of additional plate and securley holds in place ensuring safe cradeling of phone.
Phone has to be unlocked for NFC to work before storing in charger, would be much better if this worked without unlocking.
Reasonably well made, works a treat so far (had only a week) price losses a star

The headline is not quite true. The main unit has a good, flexible base which uses a combination of mild adhesive (like sticky notes) and strong suction to stay securely on the dashboard. However the base that is intended to provide a platform for this and the clips to secure the connecting wire refuse to stick anywhere - even after cleaning the surface with isopropyl alcohol. The unit works well, charging the 'phone effectively. However the accessories designed to make the installation neat don't.

Perfect charging solution for your Nokia. Gives the right amount of power to the phone for when your using a navigation app without it draining. Also good for a quick top up charge when not using the phone. You might be sceptical about wireless charging or how this is any better than a cheaper wired version, but once you start using it you will wonder why you ever used wires before.

The suction pad is very strong and also semi sticky (doesn't leave any residue though) so sticks to my textured dashboard very well, without the need to use the sticky pad which comes included. It is VERY good and hasn't once fallen off, even when it's been sat in the sun all day. The extension cable is useful if you want to go for a more permanent set up and hide it under the interior trim.

The grip from the holder is also fantastic and can easily hold my 920 at any angle without it falling out.

It's pricey for a car charger yes, but it's more than worth it for the quality and effectiveness you get with this. I've used cheap chargers and holders before and they just haven't been able to provide either enough power or stay stuck to a surface for any decent amount of time and are just too fiddly to use.

If you want a safe, convenient and effective charger and holder, then this is the one for you.

KEY POINTS

• This review is specific to pairing a CR201/200 with a Microsoft/Nokia Lumia 930 (Lumia 930)
• ADVICE IS “DO NOT PURCHASE IF YOU WISH TO PAIR WITH A LUMIA 930”
• CR201/200 charger not fit for purpose if used to charge a Lumia 930 when using the phone’s SatNav app
• CR201/200 design not truly compatible with a Lumia 930
• Packaging states that device in box is both a CR201 and a CR200 (which had some known faults)
• Device manufacturer plate clearly states device sold and shipped as a CR201 is a CR200
• Customer Service (Cert UK) not interested in answering questions around device issues and will ignore you after initial tick box acknowledgement – no customer responsiveness
• Amazon – No complaints at all with their responsiveness and have undertaken to refund upon device return

BACKGROUND

I looked to purchase the Nokia recommended car charger for the Lumia 930 Windows Mobile in large part as I had selected the Lumia 930 due to the highly rated HereDrive+ SatNav app, the integration of the app with the charger via NFC that automatically launches HereDrive+, the embedded Qi charging, as well as for Office connectivity and the Windows Mobile tiles, which I find personally an attractive UI.

I looked on Amazon and despite some reviews that identified charging problems when using SatNav felt it unlikely that Nokia, a trusted brand, would distribute through retail an item that was not Fit for Purpose. Therefore, decided that on balance, the many positive reviews should be relied upon, and made the purchase. This, as you may read, was a mistake.

For wireless charging (on a 925 at least) you need to also purchase a wireless charging case at around £20. However you can just plug in the charging wire into the USB connection on the cigar lighter plug.
