Had really high hopes for this product as it belongs to a very exclusive market - Clip on, dongle style, single earpiece multipoint bluetooth device.
Firstly, the earpeice and cable were a disappointment. It is tarted up version of the old Nokia BH-106. The cable is a flat type, with the earpiece being bulbous, and the earpiece attachment made of hard plastic. This makes the whole earpiece quite large, and sometimes difficult to fit in the ear. Why they didn't use the form factor of the Nokia BH-215, which is far more ergonomic, has a cylindrical cable (smaller footprint), and fits into the ear much better, with a soft rubber earpiece attachment defeats me.
All that aside, the item only connects to a single phone by default. Again, this defeats me - as the selling point of the device is that it connects to 2 phones(multipoint)! You have to go through a slightly complicated sequence of button presses to make it connect to 2 phones. My experience of this is that it is a bit hit and miss. I had to repeat the sequence a few times before it would connect to both phones.
It also seems that the device chooses one phone as the "Master" phone, and the other as a "Slave" phone. the net result is that the "Slave" phone disconnect and reconnects sporadically and randomly. Sometimes it does this almost every minute for up to 5 mins. The "Master" phone never disconnects spontaneously. Also, when physically disconnected from both phones, upon reconnection, the "Master" phone connects easily, but is takes a couple of tries before the "Slave" phone connects. Sometimes, the phones show a connection to the device, but no sound can be heard from the earpiece.
When it works, it works well. Sound quality is superb and clear. Volume is loud, and can be adjusted both on the phone and device. Vibrate function is good, and "Hold/Transfer" call sequences are simple and work well.
All in all, advertised features work well, but the product is unnecessarily fiddly, disconnects phones spontaneously, can be difficult to reconnect sometimes (requires switching off, then on again). The earpiece is certainly not the best, and the product could have been much much better. Despite all this, i would still recommend the device, as it is still one of the best out there in dongle style bluetooth earpieces.
*****UPDATE*******
Just an update to the review above. Having used the device for quite a while, i feel i have some more to say about.
As already noted, the device works very well indeed and does what it says on the box. It definitely holds on to the connection of one phone better than it does to the other - especially if the distance between the phones and the bluetooth dongle increases, and the multi-point pairing sequence could be less complicated.
The main issue, however, is the white rubber ring that goes around the earpiece. The product comes with 3 of these, in sizes S, M, L. These allow the earpiece to fit snugly in the ear. The problem is that it is liable to come off the earpiece quite easily and get lost. I have spent ages looking for mine when it becomes detached.
Unfortunately, Nokia do NOT provide spares for these rubber rings, and they cannot be purchased anywhere. Without the rings, the earpiece will NOT fit in the ear properly, constantly falling out. This constitutes a serious design flaw.
After losing mine, i contacted Nokia's help centre, who suggested i buy a new device! I reminded them that the device was still working, and i just wanted the piece of rubber on the earpiece. I was told Nokia do not provide it and i would have to buy another device.
Angry at this, i wrote a letter to Nokia Customer Care UK, and a nice lady called Amy called me back and offered to send me replacement earbuds. She also confirmed that Nokia does not provide these rubber rings, and she only had found some spares lying around which she was sending me.
All in all, a very good device which i would recommend (4 of my friends have bought based on my recommendation), but let down by a simple design flaw, which unfortunately cannot be remedied because there are no spares. Advice is to use carefully. Avoid putting in pockets and pulling out, as this is how the rubber rings become detached and lost. Hope this helps.
