Colour Name:Black|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I love me some Bluetooth. I love the ease with which a good Bluetooth receiver connects to my computer, or a phone or recent MP3 players. I love it almost as much as I hate snagging my head phone cables on door handles.
To this end I had been looking for a reasonably priced Bluetooth remote and headphone adapter for a while but I'd been unhappy with the fiddly designs I'd experienced. From the photo, the Nokia BH-111 looked perfect. It's designed like an ipod nano with simple buttons on the front, a clip on the back and if I didn't get on with the packed in head phones I could always ditch them in favour of whatever I liked.

Sadly in practise it just doesn't work out like that due to some infuriating design choices which make this a very irritating remote control when you are out and about.

Here's the pros and cons for you to decide yourself if this is the headset for you:

Pros
good, clicky responsive face buttons - play, pause, skip tracks, take a call. It all works as it should.
pretty decent head phones for the price - they are comfortable and sound better then any other 'pack in' head phones I've had with an MP3 player before. No where near serious enough for 'audiophiles' but probably fine for the rest of us. And you can always get rid of them, keep the headset & use something else.
It works - the Bluetooth connection was as quick and easy as it should be.

Cons
Inconvenient volume control - you have to hold it down and twist it slowly to get it to adjust the volume, otherwise it just spins and spins like a child proof lid. It takes 2 hands to adjust the volume - Rubbish! And this is the volume of the headset not bluetooth control of the device volume, so turning up the volume on your phone or music player doesn't help.
Useless clip - the clip is static rather then having an articulated jaw (think of a traditional wooden clothes peg rather than the sprung type). It is a faff and a pain to get it to clip to anything thinker a shirt and on thinner clothes it comes loose and hands from your ears by the head phone cable (this is not very comfortable).
Risky socket placement - the socket for the power adapter is a fat hole on the side of the unit, completely exposed and acting as a dust and rain magnet when you are out enjoying the British summer time.
The charger - the battery life is okay but it's not amazing. I don't want to carry the (pretty bulky) charger around with me - couldn't it have been charged via mini usb cable instead? It would be a lot simpler to charge it at work, a friends house, in the car or at an air port via USB slots and adapters and carrying a USB cable around is no big deal. A missed opportunity.

So whilst this does work it's far from perfect and not a product I can recommend.

This arrived already partially charged out of the box, and paired up quite easily with my Samsung Galaxy S on Android; although it's Nokia-branded, this will probably work fine with any relatively recent phone, including functionality of all of the features for those phones equipped with the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP). The device itself is about the size of one of the newer iPod Nanos (6th gen) and weighs practically nothing; it comes with a pair of headphones, spare earbuds, and a charger. On one side are some sealed flat buttons for accepting calls, power, pause, and track skip. Although I haven't used it for calls yet, the music functions work fine with the Galaxy S's music player software. Along one edge is a cylinder containing the charging point, a rotary volume control, and a small red/green LED when it's charging or active. When switched on, it beeps via the earphones, beeps a little tune again when paired with a device (turning the phone on *first* seems to help here), and beeps another descending-note tune when switched off.

The reverse side of the device is a clip, but it's one of the "very tight flat plastic clamp" types; it isn't literally spring-loaded like a bulldog clip which you can actually open - anything you want to clip it to has to be forced through the edges of the clip. This is fine, and clamps pretty tightly, but e.g. you're going to have a hell of a time affixing this one-handed if you're trying to clip it to one t-shirt sleeve etc. - it's better suited to a shirt with a front seam, inner jacket pocket or breast pocket, or your belt-line. The supplied earphones can be replaced with anything with a standard 3.5mm jack; all of the functions are on the device and it has no proprietary connections on the headphone socket. There's about 50cm of spare cable; enough to stretch to about your waist. I used this at the gym with my phone in a pocket and the headset clipped to a cord-tie on my shorts, keeping the cables out of the way, and had no issues, although the range between phone and device was only about 30cm in this case. Sound quality is fine, although as always very dependent upon the source. Battery life is a claimed 6 hours, which I've yet to test, but there was no audio lag, delays, or other interruptions in playing, and I was able to flip tracks with the device itself rather than my phone.

In all, it's not bad for about thirty quid, and works fine. One negative I've noticed is that he volume control is a little fiddly, however. It rotates and has notches you can feel for each turned increment, but, it only seems to actually change the volume if you spin the dial rather slowly.

EDIT : I have now been able to test the range of the gadget by inadvertently leaving my phone down on a bit of gym equipment and forgetting about it. I walked about 10 metres away with no interruption to the audio playback; in fact, if it had stuttered or broken up, I'd have been prompted to look for my phone.

great for smartphones 22 Jan 2012

Hi

I purchased one of these to use with my dell streak android smart phone.
As it was awkward having to take my phone out of my pocket unlock the phone just to change track.

using the nokia bluetooth head set is very easy. it was very simple to pair with my phone.
and all the buttons are easy to use.

Some people say the volume is awkward but I have had no problem it is a little slow to respond though.

The unit is nice and small and light weight but not to small to be fiddly.

I am quite fussy when it comes to sound quality, And I wasn't expecting the quality to be very good using bluetooth. but I have been very pleased with the sound quality while using my own head phones. its just as good as the audio from my phone if not a bit better. I haven't tried the supplied headphones, so I am unable to comment on the quality from the nokia headphones.

So if you are looking for an easy way to control your smartphone I would recommend this unit.
