4.0 out of 5 stars Nokia 7650, 18 Aug 2003
This review is from: Nokia 7650 (Electronics)
The Nokia 7650 has a mixture of several up points, but a couple of significant down points.
The main focus of the phone is the digital camera which is integrated into the phone and was the main selling point, so i will start by reviewing that. Having previously owned a SongEricsson T68i i am happy to report that the picture quality is a huge improvement on that of the T68i. The screen has, i think, 4068 colours, and the difference shows. unfortunately the camera has no zoom, so most photos are a little far away. However a clever piece of work from Nokia was the Dark Mode which lets you take photos in slightly darker conditions, although this is nowhere near as effective as a flash would be.
Now to the other features of the phone. Obviously it has polyphonic ringtones which are very good, as you tend to know when it is your phone that is ringing, rather than scrambling through your pocket to check every time you hear a nokia tone. The message tone is also polyphonic! Probably my favourite feature in this phone is JAVA. This allows you to download new applications to use on your phone, and I currently have a video camera capable of recording 11 seconds of video! The major detractor from an otherwise excellent phone is the size. when in your pocket it is very large and noticable, not like other more compact competitiors. Also when open the phone is huge, and feels slightly unbalanced when holding it in one hand while texting. However the plus's outweigh the minus's and this is a very good, though slightly unattractive phone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some welcome and unwelcome surprises, 14 Sep 2003
By
Kevin Stuttgard (Buckinghamshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nokia 7650 (Electronics)
I just purchased this phone and was instantly pleased with it. It had a flashy design, the screen was great and it can numerous features that I would never have thought of such as a proximity sensor and a video upgrade. I was originally concerned that it would be too bulky, but it fit nicely into my pocket without discomfort. The photo quality was good but a steady hand is needed or the quality of the photo suffers from blurring. However, within a day of using the phone I noticed several problems, it seems to be missing key features that other photo phones have. It lacks full screen photo caller ID, and instead has a really small thumbnail of the person calling. I went on the internet via my PC to download software for the 7650 and apart from a couple of free games on the nokia site, everything else (including the full screen caller photo ID) came at a price. Having paid such a large price for the handset I was annoyed at the fact that I would have to pay for features that any sony-ericsson photophone would have as standard. The phone did not come with any utility software to customise the onscreen appearance of the phone either. I found this very annoying. However, the phone does have some features that make it stand above other phones. It can communicate with a PC via infra-red or bluetooth. Files from a PC can be dragged and dropped onto the mobile. These include pictures, midi files(which can be used as polyphonic ringtones) and phone applications. Overall, the phone is lacking some key features, but has a nice design and screen. However, the T610 has all the features this phone lacks and is more compact. This only feature the 7650 possesses above the T610 is the video recorder, which can record a short 10 sec video. Then again, if video is what you want a 3650 would be a better choice as it has 3G compatibility. This phone bombed in Britain and now after purchasing it, I finally realise why.

By A Customer
This review is from: Nokia 7650 (Electronics)
The 7650 is a very good phone with lots on it,good graphics and quite easy to use.The only drawback with this phone is it is quite big and chunky which is strange because it isnt a old phone. However dont let this put you off as i would say its definately worth buying.
