5.0 out of 5 stars Another corker from Nokia 11 Mar 2008
By A. Lee
Having always been a Nokia girl, I was looking for a phone to replace my elderly 6230, and I have to say, despite some of the negative reviews i've read, this phone is superb. It's everything you'd expect from a Nokia; smart, looks sophisticated, and has the technology to match. I've not had any problems with battery life, and despite having more advanced technology than my previous phone it is very easy to use. I just wanted a phone that could make calls, send texts and take the odd photo and i'm very impressed. It has more facilities than I need and I'd say unless you're looking for a really advanced high-tech gadgety phone, this is the model for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact phone and easy to use! 1 Mar 2008
By Ghost of Kai VINE VOICE
I have one of these Nokia 6500 slides on an Orange contract and must say that I really love this phone! It's easy to use and has great features packed into a small handset. I had upgraded from my ancient Nokia 6630 which was starting to die on me at times. I was a bit wary as I'd never had a slide phone before but I'm more than pleased with this one. It's unbelievably small and the memory can be expanded up to 4gb on a micro SD card.

The speakers are stereo so sound quality is really good. Battery life is fairly good, bluetooth is quick and with a 3.2 megalpixel camera photos are of a nice quality. The camera lens is by Karl Zeiss so you know you've got quality.

Menus are easy to navigate with Nokia's easy interface. The phone is also quad-band and 3G enabled and also has an offline mode so it can be used in an areoplane. What I most like about this phone is that the casing on the back is stainless steel and makes the phone more solid and robust than its plastic counterparts.

Overall, highly recommended. Simple, easy to use and great value for money if you want something solid and robust.

10/10!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little phone 22 Feb 2008
By TJ
Always possible to have a "Friday phone", but I am very impressed with mine. Quality feel and action, good software, nice "feel" and it all waorks as I have come to expect from Nokia. If it does not work take it baclk. Mine is great, only limited memory (2gig) and lack of VOIP let it down, but then get a 81 or 95.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliantly simple yet clever phone..... 18 Mar 2008
I have had this phone since the week of its release (early Dec 2007) on an Orange contract. It is, without a doubt one of the best phones I've ever used. Even my father, who has had almost every nokia N series phone so far (he seems to get far too many upgrades) has commented on it. claiming it does almost everything he uses his "mobile computer" of an N95 for. The best thing about this phone is that it is simple to work and uses the series 40 OS so is less likely to crash or fail like the N series.

The photos are fantastic, and i have even printed a few. The music player is great, and sound quality is excellent. One thing that did annoy me is that there was no headphone adapter included in the box so i had to hunt for one to enable me to use my own headphones. (the included ones aren't that great). The phone is incredibly simple and makes the common tasks of texting and making calls easy.

There is one thing to mention though, after having had a replacement phone after it failed to recognise when it was slid open or shut (the buttons underneath the screen failed to work sometimes also). I have been having problems with the phone making calls and logging on to the network. I have complained to orange who are "looking into it" but have so far not solved anything. It could be a network problem in my area but I have had to switch the phone to GSM mode in order to make and receive calls.

Otherwise this is a fantastic phone and these problems are hopefully a rare occurence.

2.0 out of 5 stars good but flimsy 31 Jan 2009
There are plenty of features on this phone but I was dissapointed when the screen broke after about three weeks. I have never had a screen realated problem before and I have treated this phone no different from any other.
Despite the fact there are no marks on the case or screen on closer inspection the screen and surrounding area is really flimsy and "gives" even with gentle thumb pressure. I would reccomend somthing more sturdy as I fully expect to have a repeat repair in the near future...........

4.0 out of 5 stars NOKIA. NOKIA STEEL. 2 Jun 2008
By NeuroSplicer TOP 500 REVIEWER
Over the past decade I have been through half a dozen mobile phones. With a brief (and unsatisfactory) PANASONIC interlude, I have always gone NOKIA and did not regret it.

My previous phone was NOKIA 6230i, a stylish working horse that, after three years of non-stop use, lately kept having ringer failure. I loved my phone and, although realized its time was up, did not want to have to familiarize myself with a whole different Menu SetUp.

The NOKIA 6500-SLIDER was the perfect choice. It has a beautiful and robust brushed-steel finish, a large screen of impressive quality and one of the best phone cameras available (a 3.2Mpixels sensor behind an autofocus Carl Zeiss lens with flash). An important detail: the brushed steel is NOT that sensitive to fingerprint marks and will not require the constant wiping that other metal models do.

The menu is intuitive and easy to use even if new to NOKIA 6-series. The buttons are large enough for adult fingers and, important for a slider phone, even the top buttons are fully accessible.

Like most NOKIAs, the phone is greatly customizable, from colors and sounds to wallpapers and screensavers. It is robustly built and the slider glides easily in place with zero wobbling. NOKIA 6500-SLIDER is a beautiful phone that can be your helper for years.

My only complaints are actually...three:
(1) the very limited OnBoard memory (it has only 20MB - when my older 6230i had almost double that). Since only mp3s and photos stored on the Phone memory are guarantied to work when used as ring-tones or contact/group images, to have a cavernous 256MB Memory Card yet a puny 20MB OnBoard capacity seems ironic.
(2) the placement of the speakerphone in the...back of the phone.
