4.0 out of 5 stars Decent little phone, 19 Jul 2006
By R. B. Moore "rmoore322" (Leeds, UK) - See all my reviews

Bearing in mind this review will instantly go out of date with newer models coming along, this is a decent little phone as of summer 06. It's got a nice big and bright screen, the stereo speakers sound good, the camera does a good job (especially when you take the plastic transit cover off d'oh!). It's light, well put together, you don't need pencil sharp fingers to press the buttons, everything is intuitive, it does the job.

The battery life isn't great though, you might expect a front facing camera so you can actually use your video calling function, and it's a got a functional look that is a bit dated now. Some people have grumbled about the front end menus but they look and work OK for me!

4.0 out of 5 stars slightly flawed gem, 23 Oct 2006
By Dr. J. G. MCCREA (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I moved from a 6230 and a 6230i to this (via a series 60 phone which I soon got rid of), and while on the whole it is excellent (looks, screen, making and taking phonecalls, menu speed and ease of use, as an mp3 player, movie player) it has a few flaws.

Internal memory is useless. When you remove the memory card all the themes, ringtones, screensavers etc. that you had to store there because there was no room for them on the phone are deactivated, and you have to methodically go through them all to reactivate them again.

The camera is a bit rubbish. A flash would be nice, but that wouldn't improve daytime pictures much, which are not great.

I'd like a bigger digital clock screensaver. The current one would have been fine on a 128x128 screen, but it's useless on this 320x240 expanse.

Video calls are a bit pointless without a front facing camera, but this doesn't affect me too much..

Nokia, why can't we have a regular headphone jack?

In conclusion, I like the phone a great deal, but I'm looking forward to the 6233i :)

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing!, 28 Dec 2006
By Lindle (Lancashire, England) - See all my reviews
I bought this phone as a supposed improvement on my 6230i.
It looks quite pleasing to the eye but is not easy to hold (a bit too big for my hand) and the buttons are not as easy to use or responsive as the 6230i.
When texting the largest size text is only as big as the smallest I have used before and I prefer a very large text
I was disappointed that it does not have a `wallet' to keep secure notes in.
The battery seems to need charging more frequently than my old phone.
The memory is very small compared to the 6230i and the camera does not seem to be as good.
The only area where it out-performs is the mobile web via WAP. It has a larger screen and performs more like a mini computer than a phone.
If you just want a good mobile for texting and making calls I would stick with the 6230i.
If you use WAP a lot and don't mind the smaller text and a clumsier `feel' to your handset you may prefer the 6233. My son has one and he loves his.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful phone
I've always had Nokia mobiles and this has to be one of the worst. The battery life is very poor, thanks to a very bright display that cannot be dimmed. Read more
