5.0 out of 5 stars All you need 5 Feb 2011
If you want to make and receive phone calls, and send and receive text messages, then this Mobile phone is all you need. The low price you pay for this wonderful work of technology is unbelievable. I have not had mine for long, six weeks or so, but so far its going great. Fits into the hand, and the pocket comfortably, really well made, solid, battery lasts for days, large screen. I have had several much more expensive mobile phones in the past, and as a phone and texter, this phone is right up there with them.

4.0 out of 5 stars What It Says On The Tin 14 April 2011
Verified Purchase
As others have remarked this is a functional, basic mobile phone. If, like me, you carry a mobile for essential communication away from a landline and not as an entertainment gadget then it performs that job admirably. Why pay three times as much for features you never use?

Only slight criticism is it doesn't seem possible to recall stored numbers direct without using the search feature so it's actually just quicker to dial out.

I can certainly recommend if, like me, you hate mobiles but are left with no choice to carry one due to the dwindling number of BT payphones!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just for calls 18 May 2011
By Helen
Excellent service and if it's just for receiving and making the odd phone call out, you can't go wrong with this.

4.0 out of 5 stars bought for mother who is a technophobe! 16 Oct 2011
I have been trying to persude my mother, a 77 year old technophobe to get a mobile phone for a while but her experience of mobile phone stores terrified her even more. In trying to be helpful, staff tied her in knots with technical details about telephones with functions she didn't want and would never actually need. I decided to take the plunge and find one that I thought she would get to grips with. I read the reviews on the Nokia 1800 Pay as you Go, and it seemed to fit the bill perfectly. It does not sing, dance and make breakfast...its just a PHONE........you can also text message...if you want.

In setting it up so she could start using it the only problems I had were:

it did not come with a sim card in the box (I had been assured it would by the supplier when I e-mailed and asked them) This was easily rectified by popping into one of the local mobile phone stores and picking up a sim card free of charge....the only thing they insist on is that you put money on it straight away which was fair enough.

it had no plastic 'swipe' top up card with it which would have made topping up a bit of a drag which I don't think she would have coped with easily. Again, just asking in the local phone shop, they gave me a plastic top up card which they set up for her telephone number. She has 'topped up' no problem at the supermarket!

She has got to grips easily with the phone. I set up a 'directory' of important numbers for her and some one touch numbers for family contact, but you don't necessarily need to do that if you don't want to. The keys are small but not tiny like some of the more trendy models and the ringer (various tones) is hearable, the volume not bad except if in a town centre with lots of traffic noise etc. All in all a good buy!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nokia 1800 Vodaphone PAYG 5 Jun 2011
Verified Purchase
Does exactly what it says on the tin! No frills, no apps..... It's a PHONE - to make and receive calls and texts (plus the usual extras like alarm clock). It does all this in a clear way, as you'd expect from Nokia and it was easy to learn how to use it. All for just under £15.00.....

It looks ok, and the call quality is very good. It feels horrid though. Nasty, cheap, clicky plastic. Feels very flimsy. It is actually quite sturdy. Read more
