flimsy screen,
By EJ (Bristol, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Nokia 1661 SIM-Free Mobile Phone - Black (Electronics)
I had this phone for about a month until the LCD screen broke. I was told this was 'customer damage' because I had probably inadvertently put pressure on the screen while it was in my pocket. As such, the damage was not covered by the warranty and the phone was a write-off.
Now, I might accept this as my responsibility, except that, when I compared the screen on this phone to ALL the other 'candybar' phones I tried in the shop, I noticed that the plastic screen on the Nokia 1661 felt much more 'spongy' than the others. In other words the screen is too thin and flimsy to provide proper protection to the LCD. So you don't need to put much pressure on the handset to break the screen. Given that anyone who would buy this phone is likely to be looking for a reliable basic and ROBUST handset, I think this represents very poor design. I would thus not recommend the phone to anyone else and would urge potential purchasers to test the screen quality first. You can do this on any dummy phone you see on display, comparing the Nokia 1661 to other phones.

Nokia 1661 pros&cons,
By
This review is from: Nokia 1661 SIM-Free Mobile Phone - Black (Electronics)
pros:-
1. Good value phone - does everything I need when a modern sim-card is inserted. 2. Bright, clear colour screen. 3. Small and light. 4. Good battery life. 5. Flashlight. 6. FM radio capability, which I don't use but some people may? cons:- 1. Does not allow calls to mobiles with my old O2 sim-card. 2. Vertical spacing between keys is less than 6mm, so unusable unless you have at least one long finger/thumb nail.

Knew what i was getting when i ordered it - as a back up phone and its perfect. Very light, slim and buttons are very defined - easy to use. To summarise, nothing special but a cheap, well working phone.
