Lots of pictures, little content... 26 Feb 1997
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is the most comprehensive compilation of "alternative" bands that I have seen on the market. That is if you can reduce alternative music into a simple collection of pictures such as this. It all seems to be presumptuously based off of some preset definition of what can and cannot be classified as "alternative." I would have liked to see more descriptions of the actual bands instead of the totally unrelated text that skirts the borders of the pictures

thinking you'd learn some more abot 90's "alternative"? 20 Jan 2002
By mel - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I bought this book when it first came out, somewhere in the mid-to-late 90's i suppose, and was looking forward to some cool info about alot of the bands that i grew up with of whom turned me on to music that wasn't the outdated guns'n'roses or aerosmith that i was into so damn much untill i found out about the likes of soundgarden and mudhoney and so on. to be honest, i mainly bought this book for the photography to learn more about all of those different scenes in a visual sense which worked quite well, but the story severely lacks - spewing out all of the blunt kind of info that i bet everybody who kept their ears to the ground would already know.i'd give this book 4 stars if it was only photos, which should be the main reason for anyone to purchase

The pictures tell the story. 10 Mar 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book doesn't say anything new -- it's a shallow, alternative-by-numbers breakdown of the underground turned commercial. The pictures, however, are first rate. The Sassy magazine cover of Courtney blissfully kissing husband-to-be Kurt is a classic. For those of us who really care, a photo like that says it all.
