Biography

2000 is (not) the year of NOFX! But don't listen to the hype; listen to the record. Pump Up The Valuum is more clever, more irreverent and more crude than NOFX has ever been: and hot on the heels of the unprecedented The Decline, an amazing 18 minute punk-a-thon, NOFX come slamming back with 14 instant classics (in about 32 minutes).

Pump Up The Valuum combines some of NOFX's ... Read more in Amazon's NOFX Store

5.0 out of 5 stars I had my doubts.. 8 Mar 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
When I first heard that nofx's next release was an EP, with only one 18 minute track, I was so quick to critise it. When my mate bought, I thought he was a complete sucker. However when I heard it, I was astonished. If you like nofx, you cannot fail to like this. The vocals are amazing, the riffs are great, the lyrics (for a change) are stunning, and the melodies are emotinal and beautiful. ANd the way the song finishes is just brilliant. I know its a bit unfair 'cos its 18 mins long, but this is easily nofx's best ever song. My only complaint is that it is over too quickly. I have to say, this EP contains the best punk I have heard, with incredible intensity and great tunes. Buy this and you wont regret it (providing you like nofx)

5.0 out of 5 stars Different but the same. 31 May 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
When my friend told me that NOFX had a 18 minute song E.P. coming out, I was afraid that NOFX had become a pompous punk band with no one but themselves to entertain. Dude, I couldn't have been more wrong. Instead of appearing out of their depth, they fit snugly into the aspiring genre. Using the whole band's range of vocals, skills, endless energy, and enthusiasm. from hardcore punk pace to deeply moody strumming over what sounds like Darth Vader breathing, its a winner. I would give it more stars if I could.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate guide to a punk manifesto 1 Jun 2001
Format:Audio CD
When I first heard it I thought it was great. Now with the genius lyrics tatooed into my brain I swear this is so beautiful yet so callous that it brings tears to my eyes. The start builds up a rage, the feeling drifts in through the middle as more of a depressed rythmn comes in. The final few minutes, the verse about human existance. I want that to be documented as life. It sums up everything that is modern life, There are also hidden details that you miss, like the sound of the iron lung in the background, and the troops marching at the end show how punk has more levels than 3 chord wonders. I urge everyone who wants enlightenment to buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Decline 11 Mar 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
At the current time of writing this review i am listening to The Decline, not because i want to try and recall how good the song is but because i cant stop listening to this masterpiece. I have owned this 1-track EP for at least 9 months now and i havent once got bored of it. The most notable thing about this song is that is a majestic 18 minutes long, now most punk songs are no longer than 2 minutes, maybe 3, so i was interested into how they would approach this. The song is pretty much punk all the way through with a dose of ska towards the end and every couple of minutes the style changes along with the tempo, however somehow it manages to run along so smoothly its unbelievable. The emphasis in The Decline is the state of America as we know it and for once NOFX actually sound mature (no mention of any transexuals or lesbians at all!), which is quite unusual and the lyrical content has reached an all new level of brilliance. Eric Melvin plays a bigger part in the backing vocals, with his now familiar tuneful screaming adding brilliantly to compliment Mike's singing. In conclusion, The Decline is the best song you will ever hear. That's a straight up fact. I have owned this CD for ages and im still not the slightest bit tired of it, even if you are not too keen on NOFX i can guarentee this will change your views on them.

This is another quality release from the modern-day kings of melodic punk. It truely is a masterful lesson in how to create good punk. Fast riffs, vocal harmonies, and musicianship to put the entire pop/rock world to shame. Twenty minutes of aural bliss.

5.0 out of 5 stars All you ever need from punk in one song! 20 Oct 2001
Format:Audio CD
Being a big fan of punk/rock etc i never realy was drawn towards NOFX as a rule, but after hearing this track just once it opened my eyes instantly. 18 minutes for one track is an achievment, but when it can be pulled off without loosing the listeners interest, there has to be something good. You might think expensive for a cd with one track, but believe me, you aint going to find any other way of productivly spending it!Worth every penny! The progression of moods throughout the song is what makes its strength, and i dont think anyone could have done it better!
First class piece!

5.0 out of 5 stars another classic from a band that defines punk 5 Mar 2002
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
when i first bought this cd i didnt know what to expect. I thought that an eighteen minute song was an interesting idea and considering my favourite band did it thought id give it a go. When i got it was not disappointed. The music is lively, slow and entertaining all in one song. This cd is by far one of their best. NOFX really do excel on this one and its definetly worth the money.buy this now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 3 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
When I bought this CD, I was doubtful about it... I mean more than 15 for one track?! (As you can tell, I didn't buy it from Amazon). I have to say though, that it was worth every penny. It's a masterpiece of punk, and deserves every single one of the 5 stars that I gave it. Anyone who likes punk, this is a must have CD.
