Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Josh Groban is known as a versatile performer and singer. Here he introduces fans to his festive side with Noel," a collection of cover tunes that run from "the religious to the irreverent". With orchestral backing from the London Symphony Orchestra, Groban croons and soars his way through a varied range of Christmas classics, enlisting the likes of Brian McKnight ("Angels We Have Heard on High"), Faith Hill ("The First Noel"), and a gospel choir directed by Kirk Franklin to help conjure up a warm and soulful vibe. Tracks like "I'll Be Home for Christmas", "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear", (featuring just voice and piano) and "O Come All Ye Faithful" (with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir) should provide a soothing sonic accompaniment for all music fans, no matter what the age range or stylistic leaning. --Danny McKenna

The 26-year old American with the golden vocal chords finally gets around to doing what any middle-of-the-road musical theatre/classical crooner HAS to do at least three times in their career - makes a Christmas album. It's easy to be sniffy about this kind of thing, but Noel, released in October in the states has already notched up over 2 million sales. To some that may be a lot of schmaltz, but to his obviously huge fan base it's just the ticket.
Produced by longtime collaborator, David Foster, Groban here tackles all the usual suspects with aplomb and just the right amount of reverence. Having stood in for Andrea Bocelli, his classical crossover appeal is achieved with ease on tracks like ''Ave Maria'', and ''Panis Angelicus'', accompanied by Foster's lush string arrangements. A couple of guests drop by to share the eggnog and mince pies: Faith Hill duets on ''It Came Upon A Midnight Clear'' and The Mormaon Tabernacle Choir graces ''O Come All Ye Faithful'' to predictably awe-inspiring effect.
Groban wisely, never goes to far out of his comfort zone. Apart from a delicately acoustic rendering of ''Angels We Have Heard On High'' or the celtic lilt of uillean pipes on ''Little Drummer Boy'' this is deftly handled traditional fare that should weather both taste and time for many a year. Only on ''I'll be Home For Christmas'', with its real messages from US troops to their loved ones, do you feel that the sentimental button has been pushed a little too hard. But overall Noel is as perfect a yuletide present as Groban could have given his fans. --Michael Quinn

Again, another superb album which is well worth having. From beginning to end, you will have goosebumps. Definitely the best Christmas album I've heard. It's nothing like the compilations churned out year after year. This is pure, emotional Josh at his very best. An absolute 'must have'!

Got this cd last week while out at Target,Josh has put his own rendition to well known christmas classics. Got to be one of the best Christmas albums yet.A must for any Josh fan.

Having returned from hearing Josh sing live in New York several of the songs on this CD, it confirmed to me what a truly beautiful voice this humble guy has. To hear Josh singing "O come all ye faithful" ricocheting off the high buildings around the Rockefeller Centre at the Tree Lighting Ceremony was awsome and then the cream on the cake, hearing him live on Good Morning America on Friday was amazing. He's earned the right to be called "The Voice", he'll be around for a long time to come. He's not only got a beautiful voice but he's an excellent role model for young people today. Please don't ever change from the lovely kind,caring, considerate person you are.
Congratulations Josh, you're not only number one in the American Billboard 200 charts you're number one in our hearts too.

Slightly disappointed. Some of his best songs/singing were omitted from this CD and it therefore is left in "run of the mill" CDs.
