Also available in the short story collection Divert To The Periphery - See Author's page.

Captain James Fletcher is gradually re-building his shattered life.

The trauma of his experience on the Western Front is still very raw and his mental afflictions far worse than any physical injuries.

But how did Celia's brother die? What really happened the night he first heard the strains of Chopin, Nocturne Number Eight, Opus Twenty Seven?

4.0 out of 5 stars Haunting and well written 15 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a bite - sized short story that packs a lot of punch. Captain Fletcher has returned from war, like so many others, a damaged man. When he walks past a house one evening he hears a shot and rushes in to help. This is a period piece, nicely set so that I immediately had a sense of it in my mind's eye. A haunting record of the far reaching effects of war and a little twist in the tale.

A very short story about Captain James Fletcher, who is having unwelcome memories about the war and he is trying to deal with this. He meets Celia Hammond in tragic family circumstances and this sets the tale for an unexpected climax.
