Product Description

Manchester sensations Rae & Christian return with Nocturnal Activity a remix of their recent album Sleepwalking, a highly polished brand of funked-up, souled-out downtempo sounds proving endlessly popular with the groovy head-nod generation. Being no slouches themselves when it comes to remixes--Moby, Red Snapper, Eagle Eye Cherry, Lamb are just a few names to have benefited from the R & C touch--the duo now hand over their own good work to a bunch of other producers. The results are inspirational, with the original LP transformed here into a more dancefloor friendly (though several mixes keep the vibe chilled) and at times even funkier outing. There is excellent work here by erudite producers such as Atjazz ("Not Just Anybody" feat Kate Rogers), Bushy ("Ready To Roll"), Faze Action ("Hold Us Down" feat reggae legends The Congos), Groove Armada ("Let It Go" feat The Pharcyde), Only Child ("Trailing In The Wake") and Tom And Joyce ("Vai Viver A Vida" feat Brazilian cantora Tania Maria), all of whom turn in urbane and worthy mixes. While not many remix albums tend to hit the spot, this one does--several times.--Paul Sullivan

Sonically great, some really great mixes. I first came across Rae and Christian some years ago. We had a Mk1 Xbox that allowed you to upload CDs to play as background music and we had a compilation which included R&C some stuff. It was a Shazzam moment to find it again, and Nocturnal Activity is a fine offering with breadth, light and shade. Likely to be one you want to keep replaying

4.0 out of 5 stars translations in smoke 22 April 2002

hot on the trail of another late night, comes this re-working of last years sleepwalking.
nocturnal activity is very smooth laid back affair
with a funky acid jazz trip hop vibe
a lot of these remixs are far better than the originals
nextmans version of "it ain't nothing like" is the true prize, almost worth just buying the album for.
overall a wicked late night come down album,
who's turn to skin up?

4.0 out of 5 stars Sure would be nice if the version playing on Lush were available 29 Jun 2011
By Oathz2Arioch - Published on
Gotta say, I can't stand remixes most of the time. They always seem to lean way to far towards techno or some other lame variation.

Although I can't say with certainty that the version of Vai Viver A Vida that plays on SomaFM's Lush station isn't in fact a remix itself, I highly doubt it, and it is that version that makes for such a beautiful song. Why it is not available, but the remixed versions on this album are, is beyond me. What a piece of music that is, and I would love to have it just as it's played on that station.

Haven't heard this entire album, but I really wanted to comment on that particular song and what a breth of fresh air it is. This is a great group.

5.0 out of 5 stars British music at its finest! 13 April 2002

The main Duo from Grand Central have come up with another masterpiece that is a great follow on from all there previous work. The usual Rae And Christian smooth grooves and funky hip hop works a treat again. You can't go wrong with these two and with vocals from the legend that is Bobby Womack it all fits perfectly. An enjoyable experience from the guys.
