Nobody's Daughter [Explicit]

I have heard the tracks from this album and is little short of BRILLIANT. I read a review that some pompous idiot had written saying that the songs were "self-pitying" and "self-indulgent". I am willing to believe that he had reviewed Lady GaGa's album, or collection of dull commercial music; whichever description fits best - either way, I am pretty sure that Lady GaGa hasn't had her husband's suicide eclipse everything she ever does.

The songs on this album are well documented as having begun in rehab. They are not pleasant songs to listen to; in that they are like a knife in the stomach, their pain is all too real and easily recognised by anyone who has had life kick them square in teeth.

Courtney does NOT wallow in the pain. She uses it to take her to a philosophical flagstone. She also uses the anger that accompanies depression and self-destruction. The songs are inspirational, sung with such conviction and feeling. They are very real, they are very genuine.

Stand out tracks for me are Letter to God, Samantha and Never Go Hungry Again (which is very Bob Dylan in style and content). The album renounces all the poison and destruction that has permeated Courtney's life, she sticks two fingers up and says "I'm still breathing".

Who gives a damn if the HOLE line-up is now different, new blood was needed and no one cried and spat when Melissa went off to join The Smashing Pumpkins. Courtney is a band front woman, not a solo artist. Just enjoy the ride, you will ALWAYS be guaranteed entertainment.

Rock on Courtney, show these whippersnappers how it's done.

Well, confessions first. I am generally an indie rock / alternative kind of person. Best bands ever? Radiohead? REM? The Smiths? Joy Division? I expect you get the picture. I loved Nirvanna, althogh came to appreciate them more after they were no more. Why do people do that? Cobain was a poet and genius. So was Curtis.

But what is this? Courtney Love. Hole. I had ignored this until Love's appearance on Jools Holland's "later" about six weeks ago.

I don't like "Skinny Little Bitch" and one other track on this album (can you guess?) but the rest is littered with songs that rank somewhere between good and tremendous. "Honey" is one of the most beautiful lamenting rock songs ever written - listen to those two chord changes ("Hope that...") and be inspired. "Nobody's Daughter" and "Pacific Highway" ("miles and miles of regret") are stand out. "Samantha" is iconic, although may divide opinion. "Someone else's life" and "for once in your life" complete the best songs.

Thus far, this is the best of 2010.

Took me a while to buy this as the last Courtney Love come back album was disappointing, Perhaps I was not expecting much from this, so I was really pleasantly suprised at how good it is. As you can expect from Coutney Love, every emotion is raw and overstated, but that's what makes it so powerful. There is not a lot that she does not open up here and at times you can feel the pain. She has experimented with melody and some old pure grunge! I love it
