When I first started strength training, many years ago, the first thing I did was buy a book. The book was very detailed and very confusing. It covered a lot of scientific blurb that I simply didn’t need to know. I felt bogged down in detail. Let’s be honest, you don’t need to understand the inner workings of a car to be able to drive it. So I bought another book. This book provided inconclusive studies on best training methods. I thought to myself, “If they’re inconclusive, what use are they!” So I bought another book. This book contradicted the previous two. Now I was really confused. And so it went on.

It took a long time to form my own views on what works and what doesn’t. This book is a no-nonsense introduction to strength training.

You will not feel overwhelmed or frustrated by unnecessary detail. I will introduce you to strength training principles in a clear and concise manner. I will focus on key concepts in such a way that they don’t get lost in the detail. I will introduce you to 8 core exercises, which I guarantee are the best weight training exercises for promoting overall strength and power. These exercises are clearly described using both text and diagrams. Some of the exercises require progression. This will be taken care of in the 5 workouts at the end of the book.

My aim is to save you time and money, and to help you achieve your training aspirations.

It is truly a no nonsense guide to strength training. It has a well out line set of progressive, exercises that are meant to increase your strength, if done in a systematic and regular training program. I like the authors frankness about needing a training partner for most the heavy lifts describe in the book, which is some thing other books never really mention. There are plenty of drawing and description of all the exercise in this book which include the bench press, squats, dead lifts, pull ups, and more. The author gives a realistic perspective of how fast some one should expect to get stronger, he never over hypes his program or tries to sell you some secret training manual, which is refreshing. I would recommend this book to any one interested in strength training.

This is a great intro to strength training. It has plenty of good advice and is set out clearly. There is nothing out there that delivers this kind of content for this price. Great value.
