Book Description

29 April 2010

No little girl could have been safer. Emily Christie grew up surrounded by relatives whose job it was to protect her. Her father was a hard-working policeman, her grandad was a respected paramedic; they were the perfect family.

Or so it seemed.

Evil lurked beneath the surface. When she was just five years old, Emily's beloved grandad started grooming her, calling her his 'special little girl'. In the years that followed she was subjected to countless unforgivable acts of sexual abuse at his hands, that escalated in severity and threatened to tear her life apart.

Knowing her grandad was considered to be a pillar of the community, Emily was too scared to tell the truth. But one day she found the courage to stop the abuse and the strength to start rebuilding her life.

No Safe Place is the inspirational story of a little girl's journey from helpless victim to triumphant survivor.

5.0 out of 5 stars emotional 4 July 2011
Format:Paperback
How Emily survied this i will never know, she is an amazaing woman and i credit her for writing about the horrific abuse she suffered at the hands of her monster grandfather. I felt physically sick reading some of things he did to her. Her grandfather manipulated her fears to his own benefit, he is an awful man. This however is a book that i am pleased to have read i believe its opened my eyes on what can go on behind closed doors, i would recomend this book to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars a true test of inner strength 13 May 2010
Format:Paperback
A fantastic book that has been very well written.
To have known the horrors that had taken place and finally discover the whole story as horrific and disturbing as it may have been to read, some of the most graphic of entries for an adult to imagine never mind a child, it not only made me cry but also made me smile in recognition of emily's achievements and the amazing woman and mother she has become in the face of all she has gone through.

As the story unfolds of the abuse taking place, what is even more disturbing is the tell tale behaviours emily displayed that went unnoticed, and in society still goes unnoticed and brushed under the carpet, the quiet child, the boisterous child, the bully and the child like emily with an uncanny imagination, forever making up stories about who she is and what she does all cry out for attention, hopefully this book and others to come will cause enough of a discussion for people to wake up and start taking more notice of children and stop children trying to make them grow up and become adults before their time.

5.0 out of 5 stars How Sad 8 Nov 2010
By LDW024
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was by far the hardest book I have ever read.

I started reading this book and got half way through when I had to put it down and stop reading it for a few days as it had upset me so much.

Emily is a wonderful woman who had a Childhood full of pain and abuse from the one person who was meant to be there for her!

This is very upsetting and at times really difficult to read - have a box of Tissues at the ready when reading this book - it is so sad that there are so many monsters in the world preying on innocent, defenseless children.
