Product Description

Review

Barclay takes the didn't-see-it-coming twist (of which he is master) to cosmic levels here and has the reader open-mouthed at his ingenuity throughout. His protagonists have depth and complexity and he is even prepared to tackle what is something of a rarity in the crime genre - forcing his readers to change their minds characters safely consigned to the moral outer darkness (FINANCIAL TIMES)

The follow-up to the smash hit No Time For Goodbye revisits the Archer family, who are unwittingly drawn into a web of violent crime. Brilliantly plotted, with witty dialogue that crackles in the best hard-boiled tradition, you'll race through this fast-paced and brilliantly twisty thriller (SUNDAY MIRROR)

The surviving characters from No Time For Goodbye, Linwood Barclays besteller, are back and the past seven years haven't been kind to them. The Archer family are fractured and, in No Safe House, tihngs just get worse. Late one night, daughter Grace is coerced by her boyfriend to steal a Porsche for a joyride, but in darkened house someone gets shot ... Now read on. I did and couldn't stop. Barclay never misses! (BUZZ MAGAZINE)

Linwood Barclay has some good ideas for plots. I can imagine him saying "what would happen if..........." and then weaving a story around the idea. I think that, in this case, he departed from the usual and decided to write a sequel. So, he had to hunt around for a plot that related in some way to the original and "developed" the characters. This was a big mistake.
First, it wasn't necessary to try to use old characters. This made me always feel that I was trying to remember the original story - No Time for Goodbye - and missing out on the nuances of this follow-on. It would have made better sense to use a whole new set of characters as, in the end, the original storyline wasn't needed.
Second, the plot was too far fetched and unlikely. This just simply wouldn't happen.
Third, without wishing to give away too much of the plot - the number of deaths (at the hands of so many) was quite ridiculous.
Fourth, the ending was just awful.
I will try Linwood again because I think he is good. But please, Linwood, go back to your original style and think up a fascinating plot to develop.

I usually love LB's books but this was a bit of a chore to finish. It does pick up the pace towards the end but then there are so many unbelievable links and connections it just gets a bit tiresome. The plot also introduces too many separate threads which don't add to the story and even when the threads come together it leaves you feeling a bit confused and cheated. Having read every LB book to date it would be nice to think the next one will be better!

Once again, Linwood Barclay has produced an absolutely brilliant story. Full of twists and turns and just when you think every eventuality has been covered, something else happens and you just can't stop reading. Just love this author's books and in fact he is my joint number one author along with Lee Childs. Can't wait for Linwood's next book.

As a sequel to, 'No Time to Say Goodbye', this Linwood Barclay novel falls short of the author's excellent standards. The prologue is an indication that this may be an engaging and suspenseful novel. The continuation of the Archers' saga with Terry, Cynthia and daughter Grace become entwined with a previous acquaintance, Vince, a criminal who turns the neighbourhood into 'hell in a handcart'.

The body count rises in proportion to the detriment of the plot, at best interesting, at worst incredulous. After a third of the book, hoping for more development, after 450 pages plus I was still not captivated, especially with the ending. This is disappointing, with some merits, with a few twists and perfunctory turns, from a tremendous author.

An excellent follow up to " no time for goodbye" fast forward several years to when Grace is now a rebellious teen, Cynthia is struggling to cope and poor Terry is caught in the middle. Then one night Grace does something really stupid!!! Throw Vince Flemming into the mix and the mysterious Reggie and you've got an edge of your seat thriller!!

I am a really big fan of Linwood Barclay. I really enjoyed the first book NO TIME FOR GOODBYE. I wish Linwood Barclay would of left the story there and not made book 2 NO SAFE HOUSE. For me personally I found it hard going reading No Safe House.

I read this book straight after reading 'No time for goodbye', maybe tonight I'll get a full nights sleep as every night I've been waking in the middle of the night and reading for an hour or more. Linwood is one of my favourite authors.

Another great read from linwood. Revisiting the characters works well and the story is believe able and we'll written.

What I like about the book is that there is enough information written in to allow you to remember the previous story without having to re read it.

I would recommend reading the first if you haven't as it helps with the story line of this one. Read this week within 2 weeks, 3 hours in a cold bath just to find out how it ended. Gripped from start to finish. Well done linwood Barclay.
