I downloaded this from i-tunes after hearing an interview with Carla on Irish radio. Although I am not a poetry person Carla has brought, through song, the meaningful lyrics of some beautiful word-works which I would never have been exposed to, nor have the interest to delve into before now.

A really great work, from listening its obvious that thought has been put into the musical arrangement which perfectly matches the literary theme, and more importantly Carla can really sing! Also there is collaboration w/ Lou Reed, what more can you ask for?

I would highly recommend. Look forward to the next release, there must be lots more poetry out there.

If Carla Bruni had a face like the back of a bus as opposed to the face she does possess (not to mention the legs) we would not be hearing of "French style", "reminiscent of Nico", or "husky, intimate tones". We would be hearing the truth of the matter, which is that this woman can't sing for toffee, and has furthermore taken the buying public for fools by putting out an album with songs that all contain a vocal range of three notes.

She has made the common mistake of people who put poems to music in that she has neglected to create even a scintilla of emotional tension by distinguishing verse from chorus and intensifying the emotional pressure. Bruni would do well to pay attention to the cover of "The Stolen Child" executed so beautifully by the Waterboys. But even if she were to learn from her mistakes, she still would not be addressing the principal problem of her untunefulness and inability to hold a melody for even a bar.

I turned off the CD and put on Amy Winehouse. A flawed lady for sure, but she can hit the damn notes. Whereas Bruni's CD insults me as a listener, frankly.

I really loved "Quelqu'un M'a Dit", and so bought this as soon as it became available. Unfortunately, a big disappointment. Either her voice and the english language do not mix well, and/or the choice of poems to use do not suit her style of singing. Hopefully something better next time.
