This album holds absolutely nothing back! Definitely takes No Prisoners, lets you know that you are Free! Though there may be a few on the run from the power and sound of this: Totally sonic, in your ear, celebration of global sound and sample. If you return home from a hard day feeling that you've been wronged and the the world is a messed up place.. place this disk in the tray, turn up the volume, dance, sing and punch the air, celebrate that there's someone else who understands (Gaudi).
This is a celebration of many great musical styles and also something very very new, it's so clever yet the rhythm so driving and simple. The production is at the very event horizon of sound in the 21st century. Awesome work G! As you say "There's enough", so true, but I need more of music like this!!... The world is a better place when diversity is embraced in this way, and in its fusion transforming, evolving, alive, growing, energised and enunciated!
So what exactly do you find on this disk... driving powerful rhythms, some dub but not so much, some funky groove, oh... and I want more!! Missing is the ethnic sensitivity and vocal melody of Dub Qawwali. This is very different. I love both. But what a joy it is to receive something so refreshingly different and still not at odds with previous material. Just another facet of a beautiful diamond. This one has edge, and plenty of it! Dance and party to the sound of the whole, very little is left out here. Samples, sequences, organic sounds, a smattering of voice (not too much), dub, bass and reggae sounds (but not anywhere near as much as Bass Sweat and Tears).
This is not an album to chill to, it's is one that energises, makes a statement (several). It also re-visits some places that sound slightly familiar, but takes those moments far further, deeper and brings that energy into greater clarity. A genius of production brings audio subtlety, complexity and power into harmonious focus, wake up, sit up, dance, lets celebrate change!
