From the Author
Over the years, we've read more than our fair share of poker books - some of them good and some of them not so good. But very few of them attempt to set out the fundamental principles of no-limit hold'em strategy in their entirety, and in a form accessible to the less experienced player. There are great books on poker theory by Sklansky, for example, but most don't focus on hold'em. There are numerous good books on fixed-limit hold'em, but fixed-limit is so different from no-limit that the cross-over is minimal. And of course most self-respecting top poker pros have now made their own contribution with a book on expert strategy. Why would a pro stoop to write for lesser mortals? Most of them can't remember what's it's like to learn the game, let alone struggle with it like most players do. All this is a real shame since no-limit hold'em has recently undergone an astonishing explosion in popularity, and there are literally millions of enthusiastic new players out there crying out for a book that will help them become competent and knowledgeable in the shortest possible time. So - we set out to write such a book. Quite simply, we've written the poker manual that we would have liked to have had at our fingertips when we were learning the game. `No-limit Texas Hold'em for Winners' aims to tell you everything you need to know about no-limit hold'em, so that you don't have to trawl through other volumes, extracting the relevant information, throwing away the rest, and puzzling over expert tips that leave you none the wiser about the basics. We're not claiming that this is the only poker book that you'll ever need. But if you read this one first, all the others will make a lot more sense.
`No-Limit Texas Hold'em for Winners' is the second edition of a book previously published under the title `Playing Poker to Win'. This edition has been revised and updated and contains extra material including extended reader quizzes.
