Product Description

Actress, presenter, talent show judge.
Daughter, wife, mother, survivor.
There's so much more to Amanda Holden than fame.
A natural-born performer, Amanda's journey to becoming one of the most recognisable faces on our screens today has been one full of love, laughter and tears.
A British star and nationally treasured actress, she has appeared on our screens and stages for over 20 years. In the notoriously tricky world of show business, Amanda has carved out her own identity and enjoyed impressive longevity, not least as the longest running judge on hit ITV show Britain's Got Talent. She never fails to keep her audience engaged and entertained.
Charming, funny and incredibly honest, her story is remarkable. For the first time, No Holding Back tells it in her own words, in her own way, and shows her fans the real woman behind the headlines.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant read! 8 Nov 2013

I love autobiography's and had no idea what to expect of this one. If you thought you knew Amanda Holden from reading the papers.... think again!! It brought back childhood memories of growing up in the 80's. & you finally read her story about her first marriage, which was far from what I expected!!! Having read what she and her husband have been through in their marriage I can not believe she has come out the other end. Really well written, funny VERY sad - an excellent read!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Okay If You Like That Kind Of Thing... 14 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was my book club choice and isn't the kind of thing I'd usually read. It's and easy read, and I learned soemthings I didn't know about Amanda Holden - I had no idea she actually had a muscal theatre career for example. But there you go, I'm not a big follow of celebraty culture.

The early part of this book, when Amanda recounts her childhood, is poorly written. Kind of anecdotal but stilted with nothing to emotionallly connect to, the writing is undeveloped and unsophisticated - perhaps it's intentional to reflect Amanda's own immaturity at the time.

I have to say Amanda is honest and self deprecating about her affair with Neil Morrissey and the writing improves enormously when she writes about the loss of her first baby - you do begin to connect with her and the book flows wellto the end.

There is a lot of justification abotu family arguments and Amanda does give the impression she was wholly blameless and that it was her sisters jealousy and her grandmothers stubborness that led to the breakdown..hmmm...not sure I believe you there Amanda - not entirely sure requesting your sister to bring your dogs to you becuase you were desperate to see them wasn't the straw that broke the camels back...?

So what did I learn? That Amanda seems nice enough, that she thinks her job is wonderful but that she maybe doesn't realise the rest of the world might not agree. That she isn't a natural story teller. That she reveals more about herself than I think she intended to do...

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down 8 Nov 2013
Not usually a fan of autobiographies, but this book was just the right balance of humour/interesting stories and also an emotional rollercoaster in it's own right. Have passed it on to my sister and mum and they both read it in a day too - great page turner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest and Utterly Amazing 5 Jan 2014
I think it is important to start this review by saying I would consider myself an Amanda Holden fan. She has long been someone I had on my list of people I would like a beer with. After reading this I think I may have to change that to a glass of wine rather than beer.

This book is extremely well written and flows in an easy way. Unlike some autobiographies I have read this is written in a way that you can imagine the actress speaking to you herself. The book is brutally honest in places and she shares events with her readers that she is both proud and ashamed off. This rounded approach to telling her story makes the book even more authentic and good reading. Although there are parts of this book that hit the media this was clearly not written to gain publicity. Amanda Holden is very careful in places to hide the identity of some of the characters mentioned. At places she uses initials and in other places she does not mention names. This is refreshing as other autobiographies have been written as a way for celebrities to beat people with.

The most heartwarming part of this book is towards the end where Amanda Holden talks about her pregnancies and the struggles she has had in order to gain her two beautiful daughters. This part is well written and will be an inspiration to anyone who is going through similar in their life. I also enjoyed the gossip about Britain's Got Talent which remains the only talent show I watch. Largely this is due to the mix of judges and it is reassuring to know that they actually get on as well as comes across on TV.

Of all the autobiographies I have read this is one of my favourites and well worth a read I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in the author. I am only sorry that I have finished it.

It was very well written and through all Amanda's heartbreak, I was amazed at how she kept a smile in her face in the public eye.
