Really helped to understand the play 5 Sep 2008
By Laurie - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this book as "homework" for myself before seeing the play performed at a Shakespeare festival. I read through the comtemporary English on the right hand pages, skimming the Shakespearean left pages so I would recognize the dialog when I heard it. I saw the performance later the next day and was delighted with how many of the details I was able to understand, especially compared to the previous year at the festival, when I hadn't read the play ahead of time and couldn't follow the dialog as well. In the future, I will buy No Fear guides whenever I have tickets to a Shakespeare play.

Good for previewing, not a scholarly resource 20 Feb 2011
By Deborah R. Schwarzer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
My kids are using this version in a teen social group. We get together once a month to read Shakespeare for fun -- no analysis, no quizzing, just reading with other kids they like. It's perfect for that. If you really want the background information on the text, on particular word usage, etc., you'll need something else that's aimed at scholarly use, such as the Folgers editions, but if you aren't sure what is happening or what your character is tring to say and want to be able to skim an (OK, but not wonderful) modern language "translation" on the fly while looking at the original text, it's great.

Shakespeare for everyone 2 Jan 2009
By G. Boglio - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is the perfect book for Shakespeare 101 classes. You get the original play and a translation that keeps the spirit of the text.
But don't expect to find a word by word translation (you'd be better off with a dictionary of Elizabethan English), or a detailed analysis of the characters and main themes (Sparknotes has another book for that). It's just the play, easy to read.
