Product Description

Product Description

Coming on the heels of his epic Journey to the Centre of the Earth and The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table projects, erstwhile Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman's 1976 LP No Earthly Connection was a relatively stripped-down affair with respect to its orchestration, employing the six-piece English Rock Ensemble for a metaphysical exploration of the musical essence of mankind's soul. This departure from the symphonic sound of his previous releases met with a decidedly mixed reaction from Wakeman's fan base; yet, of all his solo records, No Earthly Connection, with its move away from classical themes, has probably the most appeal to modern-day prog rockers. Our Real Gone release includes new notes by Gene Sculatti.

Product Description

Rare original 1976 studio album recorded with the English Rock Ensemble, a metaphysical exploration of the musical essence of mankind's soul.

4.0 out of 5 stars 'Away with the fairies' 2 Mar 2013
By John F
Format:Audio CD
Rick Wakeman famously claimed to be 'away with the fairies' when he recorded this album and, as an impressionable 14 year old in 1976, it certainly blew my mind. The 28 minute title track has a mystical almost dream-like quality about it. 'The Prisoner' is almost operatic with its dramatic lyrics and rousing harpsichord solo. The final track 'The Spaceman' resumes the cosmic meandering and features a powerful Moog riff at the beginning.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Heavenly Connection 26 May 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is a classic. For me, head and shoulders above anything else Wakeman has ever done. Unique in its time, unique even within Wakeman's output, still powerful today. Edgy, pretty, bombastic and yet still a great rock record - all we ever want from classic prog. All these years later, I still cannot fathom why Wakeman did not keep this band together for longer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece 2 July 2013
Format:Audio CD
I started listening to Rick wakeman from the very start and have all his earlier pieces of work. This is easily my favourite and is an absolute classic. While on all his other work there are some great tracks some are just OK. With this album it's just one stunning track after another. An absolute gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars A master at work
This is just a digital copy of the original vinyl. It was somewhere around his 4th or 5th album of many. It probably ranks in the same position of his best albums. Read more
