Product Description

Product Description

"No-Balls and Googlies" provides a refreshingly amusing insight into many aspects of 'the elegant game' of cricket, exploring its origins, traditions, records, milestones, memorable moments and remarkable facts. For example, did you know that cricket was classified as one of several illegal pastimes in the fourteenth century? Or that Jasper Vinall became the first known cricketing fatality when he was struck by a bat in Sussex in 1624? Or that the eight-ball over continued in Australia until it was finally abolished in 1980? For cricket fanatics the world over, "No-Balls and Googlies" also provides an amusing insight into the sport's many quirky characters, and presents a wealth of facts, trivia, quotations and stories taken from this great sport's illustrious history.

Bedside reading 23 Oct 2011
There is no sport to match cricket for myriad records, statistics and odd tales. There are lots here to amuse and inform. Not to be read cover to cover but dipped into and savoured, perhaps as or with a night cap.It is particularly informative on historical aspects of the development of the great game.
