I played this once and put it in the "never again" drawer. Gutless uninteresting and pointless. If you like Mantovani you might like this.

For the first few seconds of this album, I was delighted. It combined Michel Legrand's talent for big band arrangement with his ability to deliver beautifully lush charts for strings. Unfortunately, the album is ruined by most of the singing performances, many of which sounds as though they were an after thought, and quite a few of which appear to have been conceived in a different key to the arrangement they are playing against. What should have been a terrific celebration of Christmas with a uniquely French feel was turned into an album that I have played once and never again. Perhaps the kind of singers who would have worked best on an album of this sort are simply no longer around. Whatever, this is sadly one to avoid.

Legrand but with one reservation

My perspective: professional musician, 4 decade music teacher, staunch Legrand fan for many years. My reservation is the inclusion of some of the vocalists. Perhaps their presence will bring Legrand's writing to an even wider audience? The orchestra and the arrangements are excellent in the Legrand tradition. Listen to this recording, but be sure to also find his 2 Christmas masterpieces, "Noel" with Maurice Andre and the London Symphony, and "Pastorales de Noel" with Rampal and LaGoya.

I heard about this CD on NPR(PRI's "The World")
I expected good times from this CD.I guess I was a little disappointed.Was really impressed with the French versions or the Carols (Carla Bruney) and was impressed with Iggy Pop,but other than that it was just another Christmas Cd.Probably will play in again but again it was just ok
