Few artists, especially teenaged ones, make debuts as assured as Nivea. The self-titled disc from the Atlanta singer is notable for several reasons--she wrote or collaborated on the lion's share of songs; she attracted guests ranging from rapper Lil Wayne to Atlanta homeboys Jagged Edge; and she slips effortlessly between R&B, rap, and even pop. "No Doubt" is a cuddly, undeniable ballad flecked with Nivea's sweet phrasings, while "Don't Mess with the Radio" is a hooky, finger-wagging strut. While several tracks--"Don't Mess with My Man" and "Run Away"--are sassy enough to have been lifted from a Toni Braxton record, there's a playfulness to Nivea's music that's refreshing in a world of Christinas. That Nivea first started singing in church is evident in her elastic delivery--witness the swooning "25 Reasons". And while Nivea doesn't quite have the range of her hero Mariah Carey, she's got 10 times the swagger and soul. --Kim Hughes

Oh my god, this album is HOT! This could easily pass as an already established artist's album, not a debut because every song could be a hit. The album is a mix of up beat tunes to slow and heartfelt ballads, both of which are equally excellent and all make you want to sing along whilst bopping around in what you think is in time to the beat!
I recommend this album to anyone who considers themself a RnB lover, especially the girlies who will know just where she's coming from on some of the tracks!
Go buy it!!!

How refreshing for R Kelly to take a young star under his wing and NOT make the album mainly his prescence. He has made this record both credible for Nivea and moreover, the best RnB album of 2003. I can't think of a track I don't like. "Don't mess with my man" is a floor filler. As ridiculous as "Laundromat"'s lyrics are it's a damn good track. "21 reasons" is the best track by far. Keep up the good work Nivea, I am sure I speak for all of us when I say, "we want more"!!!

This may as well be a "Greatest Hits" package...it's that good. I totally agree with the other reviewers in the fact that it really is good from start to finish. "Problems" is such a tune, as is "Don't mess with my man". It's the album which i would imagine most young r'n'b singers would have liked to have made. If u like Ashanti, or Christina Milian you will soon be putting this on the top of your pile..and rightly so.

Nivea is one of those rare albums where you can listen to all the songs from it. She excels in both up-tempo tracks (such as 'just in case' & The Neptunes produced 'runaway') and slower ballads ('25 reasons'). The thing I like most is that she has created her own unique sound without becoming repetitive or boring and her album should appeal to pop, r'n'b & hip-hop fans alike. Thoroughly enjoyable and worth buying.
