Sorry for my use of shouty capitals in title but this is due to my absolute EXCITEMENT that I've finally put an end to 13 months of misery. We have 6 people in our house- 5 of whom get headlice recurrently- myself and four kids aged 3-11. Thankfully my partner has remained exempt from an infestation. My children are mixed race all ranging from one with fairly wavy courser European type hair right up to a full fledged Afro with brittle dry corkscrew strands that get hideously matted and tangled- whoever said Afro hair types bypass nits, lice and eggs LIE!! My daughter with the 2nd most predominant Afro textured hair at our address has been covered in these things- up to 100 in her hair- absolutely gross I know- but getting a wide tooth comb through her hair is torture enough. So I've spent £319 on lice 'killing' (hahaha) products such as full marks, hedrin, etc plus every comb other than this- I even went to the GP twice with no light at the end of the tunnel. Our main trouble was not removing large visible lice but extracting the numerous cases and eggs on the hair shaft. I'm pleased to say that 2 bottles of Aussie 3 minute miracle intense conditioner and 4 hours later we all seemed completely nit free- I repeated 5 days later found 2 lice a dozen or so eggs in my sons hair, repeated again and again and now a month down the line we are 100% free from those itchy awful pests. What I found remarkable about the comb was the fact that you can see eggs attached to the hair shaft but it's not actually until you comb through and wipe on rag/ kitchen towel that you realise the unbelievable number lurking which seem much more than when studying hair with the naked eye- I think they almost camouflage into the hair. Please buy with confidence- I was at the end of my tether and now I'm so relieved I almost fee tempted to put in a massive order and hand them out at school pick up time and bill the school!!

Brilliant comb, much better than those cheap plastic ones. We use this with a head covered in conditioner to comb through.

My daughter came home with lice and very kindly shared them with all of us! Went straight to chemist and bought hedren 15 min treatment, applied, didnt work. then tried full marks, didnt work, all this time I was using normal nit comb. The chemist recommended hedrin overnight treatment, killed the critters off!!! Instructions are to reapply after 7 days, we did ours after 3 days then again on the 7th day, I hoovered daily, pillows beds carpet etc and hot washed and stored soft toys. We were now using the nitty gritty comb, much less painful and quicker than normal nit combs so happier children, looked for instructions on youtube to check we were using it correctly. Finally cleared them. We now wash and condition hair with tea tree products, a quick spray of diluted tea tree oil (from superdrug) every morning and a flash of hairspray. Fingers crossed no more friends!! Hope this review helps.

We've been trying to get rid of my stepdaughter's head lice for about 8 months now (she's only with us at weekends which means we can't pick them out every 4 days, and I think she's getting reinfested from somewhere). Last weekend she and I spent over two horrible hours picking out 16 lice and probably well over a hundred nits from her hair. By the end of it we were both thoroughly fed up.

So I bought this comb on impulse and thought 'it can't be any worse than that'. In the event it was vastly better.

We tried the Nitty Gritty comb this weekend and we are so, so happy. 45 minutes including putting conditioner on her long hair and brushing out every single tangle first. Then I started with the comb; she was able to sit up and shift position as you normally would - no more staying stock-still, which makes life easier for both of us. Every swipe brought out more eggs and the occasional louse, quickly, easily, and almost painlessly. The only time it hurt was when I got too much hair in the comb at once, and the pull was too much - won't do that again.

In short, a really effective, painless, quick way to take out eggs and lice, and no nasty chemicals. This comb is my new best friend.

I bought this for my daughter who has long fine hair, but she has a lot of it. I have used the chemical treatments such as Hedrin etc in the past and although these get rid of the nits, the eggs remain in her hair. Because of the fine texture of her hair, it can sometimes look greasy the day after treatment, even after about 4 washes to get the treatment out! I haven't worried too much about the remaining eggs as they are dead, but it does look a bit unsightly when close up. I googled a way to get rid of eggs, and this comb came up. Every review I read gave the same glowing reading - you will never look back!. Well, I am now one of these people singing the praises of the Nitty Gritty comb. It is amazing. The teeth of the comb look like little drill bits, they have little "nobbles" on, and there is no visible gap between the teeth, which all goes to make a guaranteed trap for the nits and eggs. I used conditioner and then separated the hair into sections and ran the comb through a section at a time, wiping the teeth of the comb after every swipe. It is time consuming, but very therapeutic, and provides great satisfaction in the knowledge that her hair will be free from the unsightly eggs and their mothers. Don't hesitate to buy this comb and make sure to spread the word as this is the only treatment that you will ever need.
