Mario comes to life in the palm of your hand in the Mushroom Kingdom for this all new adventure. Mario’s arch rival Bowser is up to his old tricks again, Princess Peach has been kidnapped and only you can rescue her. To help you in your adventure you can use a mixture of brand new and classic abilities such as the Tanooki Suit, Propeller Box, Boomerang Mario and binoculars to name a few.
The popular Tanooki Suit returns allowing you to float in mid air and use the cute tail to attack enemies, whilst Boomerang Mario provides an interesting twist on the classic Boomerang Bros. enemies, as Mario dons a blue shell and helmet and has the ability to immobilise his enemies with a boomerang. The Propeller Box allows Mario to fly high in the air and reach hidden areas, while the binoculars placed within some stages allow you to shift perspective to first person and survey the vivid and colourful landscapes. By using the unique motion controls of the Nintendo 3DS to move the field of vision of the binoculars, you can spot enemies, obstacles and even hidden objectives.
Nintendo 3DS offers Parental Controls so that parents can control the level of 3D their children can view on the Nintendo 3DS as well as the content they can access. Nintendo 3DS also features a 3D depth slider which lets players turn off or adjust the level of 3D they want on the 3D Screen, two built-in screens for different functionality, a Circle Pad which provides a full 360 degrees of direction, a built-in motion sensor and gyro sensor, and houses a 2GB SD Memory Card. It is equipped with three cameras (two of which are facing outwards to allow the taking of 3D pictures and video*), and is compatible with AR Cards which come packaged with Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo 3DS is also backwards compatible with most existing Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi games, which can be played in 2D on your Nintendo 3DS system.

The Product:
is beautifully made and features corrections in the build quality (I believe) that have sorted out the wobbly hinge. This is no longer an issue. The faces have a tendency to collect fingerprints, but it's nothing a soft cloth can't solve. If you're worried about the screen being too small and the graphics bad, don't fret: the upper screen (game screen) is easily large enough - even for games such as Mario Kart 7 which have long fields of vision and lots happening (the classic Mario Kart chaos!) The graphics are crisp and the pixels only noticeable at end-of-your-nose distance.

3D:
Taking the advice of reviews and discussions online, I am still working on the 3D. It is advisable to begin without it and then progressively turn it up over the course of a week or so. I have had the console for a couple of days and still only use the 3D at the lower end of the scale. On the first night, I had a mild headache, but no migraine like some users have claimed. I think, if you take your time with the 3D, your eyes adjust and you can cope with it easily. Using the full 3D makes me feel a little odd, so I tend not to. It is, however, very helpful for 3D Land, because it can otherwise be hard to judge your position (i.e. what are you going to land on etc.) The 'sweet-spot' problem is not a problem, as it isn't necessary to move the 3DS much during gameplay and you quickly learn to hold the sweet-spot in sight.

Super Mario 3D Land:
Superb. Fantastic. Enjoyable. Addictive. A truly well thought out game and varied.

I have Mario Kart 7 which I strongly reccomend to any, especially those who are fans of Mario Kart Wii - MK7 is better. There are gliders and underwater sections and dinosaurs! Well worth 30 quid.

Rayman 3D I bought, because I loved the original (Rayman 2) and this game ticks all the same boxes. It doesn't compare to the Mario games, but then again, what can?

Finally, Battery Life:
This has received much criticism. I'm not sure why. Do people expect a thing that fits snugly (and comfortably) in the palm of your hand to be on Wi-Fi, 3D and full volume and still maintain days of battery life? With Wi-Fi and 3D off and the sound down low, this thing will go for hours. With Wi-Fi, 3D and full volume, it will be dead after three or four hours. After three to four hours of playing on a games console, my head will start to hurt (3D or no) and this seems like plenty of time to me. Enough for a train journey, a flight to the continent, lunch at you grandma's :)

Fun:
Was xmas box for my 13 year old to replace his original DS. He loves it, the graphics are sharp and it is good you can turn the 3D off which can hurt your eyes after a while. The only complaint he has was that he wanted the red one but you only got mario game with the white one. All in all great value for the money well done Amazon. Just need more games in 3D now.

Fun:
I sold my DSi to my uncle to give to my little cousin for christmas, and decided to wait until after Christmas to order. Even though I struggled to open the box ¬¬ I had a glorious moment when I first saw it's shiny whiteness. I was originally going to buy the black one in November, which my friend has, and I'm so glad I waited. Personally I think the white is so much nicer, even though it's a bit more girly, which I don't mind ;) The 3D is quite good, and I use it when I can and haven't noticed any headaches or dizziness, although I never have it turned up more than halfway. I love the AR game, which really shocked me as I hadn't known quite what it was before I ordered, so that's a fantastic use of the 3D and I think it's been really well done.
Considering this is my first time playing a Mario game, I am enjoying it but get bored after a while, so my old DS games aren't being replaced any time soon.
I heard that the screen gets marks on it from the two sides rubbing together, so I looked in to screen protectors. The ones on here are expensive and most didn't have great reviews, so for £4 in Gamestation there is a pack that is good value for money, and I previously used theirs for my DSi. I found that they were easy to apply and caught no dust, although there is a small gap at the side on the lower screen, but that's necessary for removal, so no problems there.
I only have two problems with the console. First, is that the directional and power buttons seem a bit loose and rattle, but this appears to be the same on others. The second, is the placement of the stylus. With my DSi, if I needed to use the stylus I could remove it from it's slot in one nice smooth movement with my right hand, whereas now, I have to fiddle around turning the console and flicking it out.
However, these are only small issues and easy to forget when playing. I think it's absolutely beautiful and feels great to hold. I have also noticed that the black shiny frame at the top gets covered in fingerprints when I don't even remember touching it!! But because the outside it white, there are not as many marks on it as the black. Streetpass is also a great feature, although I am still getting used to it!!
In all, I'm so happy that I waited an extra month, partly because I love it so much, and partly because it seems like better value for money rather than buying black/blue/red on its own with a separate game.
