Fun:
WiiSpeak is a microphone for the Wii that allows the whole room to chat with another whole living room. You may want to use it with solo use, but it can be used with the whole family. The quality is, for the most part, fantastic. Currently Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City is the only game to use WiiSpeak, and only one future game has been comfirmed to use WiiSpeak - The Conduit. But, you can also use the WiiSpeak in another way besides games - namely, the WiiSpeak Channel. When you get WiiSpeak, you'll find a piece of paper inside it with a code. Before you think this is junk, the code on it can actually be inputted into the Wii Shop Channel to download the WiiSpeak Channel. The WiiSpeak Channel is a Wii Channel that allows you to just essentially chat with Wii Friends that also have WiiSpeak, much like Skype. But, it can also send voice recordings to Wii Friends for them to listen to when they open up their Wii Message Board message - even if they don't have the WiiSpeak Channel.
As crazy as this sounds though, don't buy this specific product. There is also an official bundle of WiiSpeak and the recently released Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City available. If you are going to buy WiiSpeak (which I really reccommend doing), buy it with Animal Crossing: LGTTC in a bundle.

Fun:
It does what it is supposed to, and the quality is pretty good when you are just running the WiiSpeak channel - but during games, the quality is awful.
I bought this to play Monster Hunter Tri online with a friend, and after months of trying, shouting at each other, repeating everything we say 10 times etc, we've just had to give up.
We both have high speed internet connections, live less than a mile apart, but the quality during a game is virtually unusable.
We've had to resort to using Skype on our laptops (running through the same internet connection, with good enough quality that we can actually understand each other.)
If you want to use it for sending voice clips or the Wii Speak channel, it's pretty good - if you want to use it during games (well, I can only speak for Monster Hunter), it's borderline broken, and not worth the effort.

Fun:
I purchased Wii Speak to coincide with the release of The Conduit. It is excellent to finally be able to chat with my friends from all over the world whilst playing with them. Additionally it has also been handy to use the wii speak conference room which is becomes a channel on your menu. With this you can chat with any one of your friends who has wii speak. Whilst not revolutionary in it's function this does essentially mean I can have free phone call chats with friends in other countries, which has saved me money.
For those two reasons (The Conduit with friends and free phone like calls to friends who are far away) I would recommend.
If however it is unlikely you will use its functions then there is no reason to waste your money on this device.

The grandchildren loved this gadget. They used it to talk to there friends and it kept them content and animated.

Don't quite see the point in this.
Wanted to use it for Monster Hunter, but the sound quality wasn't great, and in the end using a keyboard during gameplay was far more reliable. Read more

Rubbish!
I use the Wii speak for Monster Hunter Tri and I find it almost impossible to understand what others are saying. A waste of time and money in my opinion.
