Amazon.co.uk Review

You might not see the supporting merchandise so much nowadays but Pokemon is still the most successful games franchise in history. Diamond and Pearl sold 5 million copies in Japan in under three months and 1 million in America in just one month, breaking all records for the year and the series. At first sight though this looks disappointingly similar to the existing games, with only a subtle 3D effect for the game world and largely static 2D battles. However the gameplay has undergone a complete overhaul, adding numerous new features and reintroducing others from Gold/Silver/Crystal, that had previously been removed.

The basics are still the same though, as you venture out into the world (called Sinnoh this time) in an attempt to catalogue each and every pokemon and battle the evil Team Galactic. Catching and training a pokemon for combat also works the same as before, although beauty and talent contests have been greatly expanded for those that prefer as little violence as possible. The game includes a day and night cycle, which severely impacts the appearance of pokemon, and you are given a new gadget called a poketch which starts as a simple watch but can be upgraded to everything from a scanner to a map. Secret bases are back and considerably more sophisticated than before but the most important new feature by far is the online mode. You can now trade, chat and battle with fans from around the world – proving that progress is not always just a case of better graphics.

Product Description

Pokemon Pearl is a traditional Pokemon RPG that takes place in a region called Sinnoh.

In the Sinnoh region, there are two Pokemon that symbolize the region. They appear in the Sinnoh reigon`s myths and old folklore. One is called Dialga, and is said to have the power to control time. The other is called Palkia, who is said to have the ability to distort space. The sinister organization called Team Galaxy is trying to rule the region by utilizing these two Pokemon`s power. During your adventure to complete your Pokedex and become the Champion, these two Pokemon, and Team Galaxy, will intertwine into the story and lead you on a fantastic journey across the Sinnoh region.

When you set off on your travels, you`ll be able to play as either a boy or girl Trainer. You will also utilize the DS`s dual slots to transfer Pokemon from the GBA Pokemon games and be able to link up with Pokemon Ranger to access more special content. Pokemon fans have caught glimpses of Mime Jr., Lucario, Munchlax and Weavile in Pokemon movies, and these Pokemon will be debuting in this adventure.

THE BEST GAME EVER!!! 25 Jan 2009
Fun:
I love this game! Although this is my first pokemon game, I've had other DS games before, like Zelda, Nintendogs, and Mariokart. This game is HUGEEEEEEEEEEE. There is so much to do. Just when you think the game is over, there is something else to do. I thought after obtaining all 8 gym badges and beating the Elite 4 plus the Champion (Cynthia), the game was over. I then discovered that you could catch Heatron, and also start to build up your Pokedex. I've managed to catch Palkia, Uxie and Azelf, but is still trying to catch Mesprit, who keeps running away. I've managed to get her level down to yellow, and can't wait to catch her eventually. In the meantime, I can battle in the Battle zone and rechallenge the Elite 4 as often as I want, to level-up my Pokemons and earn more money. I've also managed to eventually evolve Riolu into the Great Lucario.
You can challenge a friend and I understand that you can also go online to trade or challenge other people, but I've not done that yet.
All I can say, is BUY this game. It's more than FANTASTIC!!!

To clear things up 14 Aug 2007
Fun:
Ok, first things first, if you are thinking "There are so many good reviews, but what ifits too childish?" DONT! This game is far greater than 5 stars, but thats the limit.

For those of you who are going to buy it, but just cant seem to decide, Diamond or Pearl, despite Diamond being more popular, pick Pearl. Later on around the Elite 4 you will have an easier time.

A warning to those who will buy it, it is reccomended that you own Fire Red and Saphire/Ruby/Emerald, as pokemon fromthose generations are only obtainable through Migration.

You can Migrite Pokemon after completing the Sinnoh Pokedex.

That was just to help, now I serioously reccomend this game.

Surprisingly good. 8 Aug 2007
Fun:
I'll be honest from the start, I have never really been obsessed with Pokemon. I received this game recently and my opinions dramatically changed. This game is addictive and really grows on you. You raise Pokemon and fight battles against wild Pokemon and trainers. There's a storyline which is good to follow in that you are battling against Team Galactic in lots of different places. Other characters give you hints what to do and where to go next and your adventure continues. You help Professor Rowan by collecting lots of Pokemon data in your Pokedex. What surprised me is that there are lots of extra cool features included with the game, such as a Wi-Fi online gaming option and new 3D graphics. Also, there are lots of new characters which are always great to see. As you progress through the game, you learn your Pokemon's strengths and weaknesses and aim to become the ultimate Pokemon trainer.
Overall, a fantastic game for Nintendo DS- the best Pokemon game yet!
