4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect!! 23 April 2013
I already own a Nintendo 3DS but when this Limited Edition XL version was announced I jumped at the chance to upgrade. The design is very nice and the colour is superb. My only gripe with the design is that the Emblem on the top lid is only printed on. It would of been nice if it was carved or embossed making it feel a bit more permanent.

The other reason I went for this bundle was the game. Fire Emblem Awakening is amazing and reason enough to own a 3DS but that is for another review.

The larger screens of the XL are very clear and you really sink into the screens if you choose to use the 3D option. The screens are not a higher resolution though so some people could argue the larger screens lack definition but I think this is not noticeable.

I would of preferred a physical copy of the game as I don't like the idea of my digital content being tied to the machine. Please sort this out Nintendo, it can't be hard as every other manufacturer seems to manage to use a profile system.

To address the non inclusion of the AC adaptor I would like to say that it is clearly stated that it is not included so to subtract stars for this in your rating I think is unfair.

To sum up it's a great looking console (bit heavy) coming supplied with a fantastic game. The only reason I have given 4 stars is because I feel a physical copy of the game would be preferable (I think the normal 3DS come with a physical copy).

5.0 out of 5 stars A epic console and a epic game. 19 May 2013
Verified Purchase
I bought the Fire Emblem 3DS XL since I got told by a friend who owned the US version of the game that it's a epic and enjoyable strategy game.
I have to say that the game itself pays for the console's extra price, but the iconic nature of this release makes it even more epic that Nintendo gave Europe their latest console to play it on straight out of the box.
You have more than enough space to, in most cases, install a couple more retail eShop titles on the console, while America got only half the space with their Fire Emblem Limited Edition bundle.

Be glad to be a European for once, and show Nintendo you love your strategy games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic game and a fantastic limited handheld! 22 April 2013
By Amalia
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This handheld is a must for any Fire Emblem fan. Having been fortunate enough to play the series since it was released in the West I just had to buy this and do not regret it for a second! The artwork on the cover is subtle and doesn't stand out from a distance but on the other hand it does make the cover look much nicer than the plain versions. It's a shame the shade of blue isn't the same as the Japanese and US release (they didn't get the XL version) and the EU verison also lacks art around the border. That being said I still love the colour, even if it's the same as the standard blue.

I previously had a launch 3DS and used to be very anti-XL. I used to believe it was a cheap way for Nintendo to churn out a 'new' handheld without actually improving it but I have to eat my words: The XL makes a -huge- difference. I can't see any pixelation (this usually occurs when the screen image gets enlarged/stretched because 3DS games are made to resolution of the smaller version of the handheld - thankfully this isn't an issue on any games I've played). The top screen 3D takes a little while to get used to. I've found I've had to hold the handheld further from my face than I used to with the thin 3DS. The XL also feels nicer. It feels like a much more streamlined and all round better unit. It's not very often I approve of new models of game consoles/handhelds but for once I really support it.

As for the game, well this is easily the greatest Fire Emblem game released. It has everything in abundance: strategy, vast range of characters, interaction between them, story, plot twists, cutscenes. Fire Emblem has certainly taken a step in the right direction for their latest game with the addition of a customisable 'avatar' (your own character who acts as the party's strategist).

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 21 April 2013
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Wanted a new handheld, and one that was about bigger than my old one. This was perfect. Good size, great display and easy to use. Only reason it's 4 stars is that although I payed for it to arrive at my house on release date, it did not, and it didn't include a charger (was my own fault really, should have read the small print). But otherwise, great buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Present 16 Feb. 2014

Bought as a birthday present, packaged and received on time. Only one groan is that it has a slight rattle in the back of the case, however, works perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nintendo 3DS XL is it worth it? 22 Aug. 2013
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I am very happy for the opportunity to let you know about the Nintendo 3ds XL. This past year we bought Liam a 3ds XL - and he LOVES it! I was really impressed with everything the 3DS XL could do, but I have to say, Nintendo has taken the 3DS to a completely new level with their new 3DS XL - Fire Emblem!

The Nintendo 3ds XL has a sleek, new look and is packed with exciting features:

- 3D screen

- A widescreen display on the top screen shows 800x240 pixel resolution, allocating 400 pixels for each eye to create the 3D effect.

- The bottom LCD touch screen operates at a resolution of 320x240--with both screens capable of displaying a brilliant 16.77 million colors.

- The Nintendo 3DS system uses its two outer cameras to see the world in 3D, much like the human eye. This allows for the creation of 3D photos, 3D video, and even 3D stop-motion animations, that make for an eye-popping addition to your next picture.

- 3DS XL systems come with a 4GB SD Memory Card

- Almost all existing Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi games can be played on a Nintendo 3DS system in 2D. With backwards compatibility, your existing portable games look and play just as well.

- When playing Nintendo 3DS software about 3-5 hours. When playing Nintendo DS software about 5-8 hours. Battery duration differs depending on the brightness setting of the screen. The information regarding battery duration is a rough standard. It can be shorter depending on what functions of the Nintendo 3DS system are used

- 3DS XL offers Wi-Fi connectivity . Your Nintendo 3DS system can automatically connect to a wireless internet access point.

The metallic blue finish is smoooooth as Chris Peppler.

Fire Emblem itself isn't for everyone, although the graphics are great - and the cutscenes look amazing in 3D.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best handhelds I have ever had.
Long story short, fun games, reasonable price, good looking. At first my hands hurt but that might have been because I held the console wrong.
