Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Get on board, corner the market and make a fortune!

Players become familiar characters from the Nintendo and DRAGON QUEST universes in a board game that challenges them to play the real estate and stock markets wisely to win. Players race around the board trying to accumulate wealth and hit a target value while buying, selling and trading property with friends and family to see who can be the first to cash out. What appears at first to be a simple property-buying board game offers multiple levels of money-maximizing opportunity.

FEATURES:

  • Players move around one of more than 15 boards, buying shops to build their portfolios and collecting symbols they can cash in at the bank to earn more gold to invest. It takes money to make money, so racing around the board may not be the best strategy.
  • To capitalize on their monetary gains, players can make investments, play the stock market, purchase shops and collect shopping fees. When players buy multiple shops adjacent to one another, the property value grows and both shops level up. Other players who land on those squares have to pay an increased shopping fee.
  • Players can choose to play as a variety of Mushroom Kingdom characters, as DRAGON QUEST characters or even as their own Mii characters.
  • More than 15 game boards with different shapes and layouts are available to provide endless replay value.
  • The beginner setting called "easy rules" helps newcomers learn the basics, while the more advanced, "standard rules" introduces more challenges, deeper strategy options and the ability to play the virtual stock market.
  • Play against friends with the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Boom Street is very similar to the classic board game version of Monopoly: make as much money as possible. To say though that they are the same is wrong though as there are notable differences to be worthwhile getting both.

First things first though, this game is very much a Board Game in a Video Game, if you thought the Mario Party series was slow and boring, then chances are you won't like this, there are not mini games as such, more like virtual chance and community chest cards from Monopoly. It's just a case of roll the die, land on square, buy or pay for property, sort out the cash if needs be move onto the next person. Like Monopoly, a game can easily last a few hours, even on the easier boards it can last in excess of 2 hours.

There are some differences to Monopoly, the main one being the stock market. By looking at which district of shops (think of it as the reds, browns and blues from Monopoly) has the most capital to invest in and keeping a close eye on it when other players buy shops will help your overall value increase. You can invest in properties before owning the full set, but by owning the full set not only increases properties but also the stock market share price. You can also notably sell all your shares in an opponents district to lower there overall value (as it lowers the stock market) in this sense, it is a lot more strategic than Monopoly as whilst the higher costing properties help you out, you can also lower it, by using the various tactics available to you (And is one of the reasons why the game can last a while)

You can also build your own shops which help again with the strategic element a tax office say, will take an extra 5% from your opponents and give it back to you when you land back on it. The big major difference with Monopoly though is you're not trying to make anyone go bankrupt! You're all there to make money, and most of the early games have a 1 player bankrupt limit. It's not happened to us (if your short of cash you can sell shares) and I'd imagine it could be quite difficult too but I'd imagine it's game over for everyone if two people go bankrupt

One of the big downsides is, that with so much going on at once, the first time you play it, you can seem a little lost if you don't look on the online tutuorials or the game tutorial. On my second go, it was a lot easier to know how to play the game. You can begin to work it out, but to win you need to read the instructions

In short, if your a classic board game fan, particularly Monopoly, you'll enjoy it. Obviously a game like this is more fun with friends but that won't unlock anything. This isn't like Mario Party Board Games, if you expect that you'll be disappointed. So sit back, enjoy it for what it is, a quirky Monopolyesque game!

Great 27 Jan 2012
Fun:
This game is a game of it's own. Definitely don't buy it if you want an easy to play game like. Though it has some few Mario Party aspect, it is really not like Mario Party. It isn't just a monopoly clone either. It has fairly different gameplay from monopoly and you make much more of the decisions.

You have to change the setting strait away if you want the game to not take hours. Games can take a really long time when the characters say their little phrases which get annoying and repetitive. Even more so when they make annoying little jokes such as slime jokes from that slime creatures.

I like the shop, it is a really good touch but it is hard to earn enough money for most stuff in the shop but still, shouldn't stop you from making your Mii looking, acting and feeling awesome after 1 or 2 games.

The actual boards them self are one of the best things in the game due to design. Their are about 18 courses, (could be wrong) all needing you to adjust your strategy to beat the other players. I was rather disappointed that the areas were an animated background and you don't move around and actual area in one of the games but the background areas are a great look.

Buy this game if you like monopoly but don't buy it if you want the kind of minigames you get in the Mario Party franchise.

Brilliant Game 11 Jan 2012
Fun:
This is a great game.
if you love Monpoly you'll love this.
The game seems to go on for quite a while, just like monoply.
I love this game but I really love Monopoly so I could be a bit biased.
