Product Description

The Game Boy is that small, colourful hand-held video game system clutched by folks playing it everywhere. Popular among a wide age group, including a good number of airport-lounging power executives, the Game Boy has a true hard-core fan base comprised of millions (and millions) of kids around the globe. This audience has literally turned the Game Boy--and now the enhanced and more powerful Game Boy Color--into a fashion accessory.

Nintendo's Game Boy debuted in the late 1980s and has since sold over 60 million units worldwide, far outpacing other hand-held game systems. With a catalogue of over 1,000 games and dozens of add-on peripherals, Game Boy is a monster of a hand-held game system, and a remarkably affordable one at that.

Early March 1998 brought the release of the Game Boy Color system, an upgraded version of the original. It is equipped with an 8-bit CPU, doubling the original Game Boy's computing power. The small LCD screen can display up to 56 colours simultaneously (out of a 32,000-color palette), delivered via boosted video processing memory that provides remarkably sharp and vibrant graphics. One important note: the system is not playable in the dark, but there are plenty of effective book light-style add-ons available.

A cool new feature in the Game Boy Color is a built-in infrared communications port that allows gamers to exchange data between systems cable-free. Two players can simply walk up to each other, enter a few commands, and trade in-game items, custom characters, or saved games (for supporting games). Nintendo has yet to take full advantage of this feature, so don't expect to use it too often, if at all. Head-to-head action (the ability for two players to play in the same game) still requires the optional Game Link cable, but the Game Boy Color transfers the data between machines 64 times faster than older Game Boy systems.

The hundreds of available games vary from tremendously compelling to instantly forgettable. Quality or not, the entire library of games designed for the original system is playable on Game Boy Color, but buyers should note that not all Game Boy Color games will work on the original Game Boy system.

The Game Boy Color system is available in an exotic array of colours and special editions. Accessories and add-on peripherals abound, enhancing the playing experience with vibrating feedback to in-game bumps and crashes, extra battery power, and even a clever camera package that allows players to capture, tweak, and print images.

This console was revolutionary when it succeded the original Game Boy. It is still a landmark console as all the others are because there is as of yet no rival to the handheld market. But this doesn't mean they are spin-offs. These consoles also offer a great inventory of games including Pokemon (which I dont play) and Donkey Kong. Buy this console if you like collecting things like this.

When I was younger, I had an original Gameboy (the big grey one), and I always wanted a Gameboy Color. Now that I finally have one, it's like being a kid again! Personally, handheld gaming can't get better than this. The graphics may not be great, but that isn't everything. It has so many classic games, like Pokemon, Mario, Kirby etc. Overall, GBC is an absolute classic, and the best there ever will be.

I'm a fourteen year old video-gaming enthusiast and I'm very into 'retro'. I bought this console a bit skeptical after reading a few bad reviews, but I'm now SO glad I bought it! There were no scratches on the item, the colour was bright and the screen wasn't dim at all! I would suggest people would buy the games off eBay rather than amazon though. They're overpriced on here.

Anyway, to sum it up, I'm very pleased!

I purchased this for my 14 year old daughter who desperately "needed" it, apparently! Much to my chagrin, I'd thrown her older brothers one away years ago, when it had become so outdated. Who knew they would come back in fashion?! But, they have & so I was rather pleased to discover it wasn't prohibitively expensive. I have to say, she plays with this 10 times more than she ever did her Nintendo Dsi, sometimes the simpler things in life really are better! It was in great nick, worked perfectly & costs very little to buy the games, all in all, very pleasing.

Good second hand product that functions perfectly and was in much better condition than I thought it would be. Reasonable price too.

I received this product in top of the line packaging (it was well wrapped). The product came to me as the condition described and in my opinion better in working condition with not a few but one small scuff and an excellent screen. I recommend this buy to any Passionate gamer.

P.s make sure to blow the dust out of the cartridge area

A great dream of mine came true when I bought this handheld a while ago. Games are widely available these days for all gameboy devices for low prices. The system itself is easy to handle, the case is strudy and can take lots of damage. Highly recommended for all those who are looking for some nostalgia!

The only downside to the gameboy colour is that it can be a bit hard to see the screen and you have to point it in a certain direction to get a decent angle
