Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

Ninja Tune is one of the few labels that still appreciate the meaning of the scratch and the funk: mixing things up with vehemence and style. That's not to say that the label's music hasn't grown increasingly loungy, as evidenced on this uniformly fine, if slightly anonymous, 30-track, two-CD compilation. Or it could merely mean that the language of hip-hop no longer causes psychic confusion so much as nostalgic memories. Certainly the sound of a typewriter in Kid Koala & Money Mark's "Carpal Tunnel" is as antiquated as a Run-DMC album. Tracks from Dynamique and Roots Manuva, among others, are brand new and, for the moment, exclusive, while many (including "Body Lockers", Chocolate Weasel's Jaco Pastorius imitation) can be found elsewhere, so research before spending. --D. Strauss

5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth, Funky, Stylish and did I mention Funky ? 16 Sep 2004
Format:Audio CD
Well , the girls and boys at ninja tune seriously shows their stuff with this compilation. The Ninja cuts series only get better and better and this one proves why they are king of the ring.
Some of my favorite tracks include (but are NOT limited to)
Soluble Ducks - Almost Ambient (listen for the clicks)
More Beats & Pieces [Live in Koln] - Funky live performance
It's Just for You - Funky tune (Poppin' and Rippin' , the needle aint skippin')
Emerald Alley [Indian Morning Theme] - using Sitars that were recorded live in India... Not great , but still good:)
My personal favorites are (and this is after listening to the album a good 200 times!!)
Crow - DJ Food
A Deep "contra-bass" is used to achieve an almost cinematic feel to the track. It is seriously superb and can even be appreciatedd by the more classically minded people out there. Seriously one of my all time favorite songs!!
Mrs. Chombee Takes the Plunge [DJ Food Re-Bake]
This one is hard to come to grips with , but after listening to it a few times one realizes that this is the best song on the CD :) It sounds out of tune , it rolls and does'nt really get anywhere, but you'll know what im talking about when you get to the last few minutes of the song ... Skip it back and listen again !! WOW !!!
Its really worth every cent you spend on it ... even if you dont like all the tracks, you will love the ones you like !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply brilliant. Introduced me to a great label. 9 April 2001

My brother has run off to university and come back with a greatly different taste in music. He lent me this CD set, and I was hooked. Every track will be your favourite. Some nice mellow tracks, some bumpin' one's (and some wierd one's; Fish - Mr Scruff). If you like this, but would prefer somthing a bit more hip-hop then get the Xen cuts CD, which is a nice introduction to Ninja Tunes. Also, can anyone name the sample at the end of "More beats and Pieces"? Brought back memories.
