M R James is just the best author of his time and in particular for his ghost stories. The horror side of the story is not painted in gore but by suspense and his style of writing. Once you start to read these stories, you have to get to the end. This book in particular is a must read for all MR James fans, but those of you who haven't read him, take a chance you will be pleasantly surprised.

There were a few excellent stories which were quite spooky (the one with the house in the picture was especially memorable) in this collection.

It's based in the early 1800s, where people collected rare books and went on expeditions; I found some of the language and phrases used difficult to understand. There are a few Latin phrases that were used, but because I couldn't see the actual translation of these until the very end, a few of the stories' endings didn't make sense. By the time I got to the translation at the end of the book, I'd forgotten which story it referred to.

The short stories were atmospheric and entertaining, and always made me want to read to the very end to find out what happened.

Overall, a good read for a brilliant price. My only issue was that the Latin translations were left to the end of the book.

so far its been quite good and good value for money, i bought this book to load on my kindle sa i would knoe what to do next time didnt expect it to be that interesting to be honest
