Every book I read on this subject has my cynical eye checking to see if it's also accessible to staunch meat-eating family, friends & acquaintances.... alas, most do not as they cannot reach the parts that this one does.

The writing style is a rarity in the world of educational reading. It's as if he's sitting there talking to you & like all the best books, the real-world kindly clears off.
This is what makes this a unique wake-up call on the subject ~ he has sucked you in & then spat you back out into the inescapable fact that this *is* the reality of the world in which we are living & sadly most are oblivious to.
He's like a smooth talker cleverly luring you in, sneakily prising your eyes open to life & then making you feel empowered by reawakening your (com)passion & drive. Very clever man.

I think it supports vegans when in need of inclusion, will enlighten every vegetarian & can NOT fail to reach meat-eaters.
A straight-talking book to give as gifts-to-the-senses & will not be seen as "oh its her & her strange cult of The Outsiders".

A really accessible book on the issues surrounding the meat industry and veganism. It deals with all the arguments that meat eaters might come up with and really quite conclusively shows where they are wrong. A real must for anyone interested in animal rights and veganism and a great sourcebook for the AR world. I would also recommend this book for anyone interested in the ethics of animal husbandry and anyone thinking of taking up a vegetarian/vegan diet.

What an amazing read. Richard has captured so very eloquently what so many of us think and feel about our fellow animals (persons). The book is truly inspirational, and so very passionate and moving. It is one of the most persuasive and articulate books on the subject of animal rights as has been my pleasure to have read.

"The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated." - Mahatma Gandhi.

A declaration to all of mankind to change our ways for the good of ourselves, our planet and all the beautiful and wonderful non human animals we share this pale blue dot with.

I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone!

This book has changed my life. I have been a vegetarian for 18 years & had been deciding whether to make the step to veganism. I wanted to settle in my mind the logic behind it and put away the doubts of 'what will I miss' and 'what will people think'.
After reading this book- there is no other choice for me other than veganism.
It gives clear explanations and backs up arguments with clear answers.
This is the book that millions of meat eaters should read but will choose not to read.

I really loved this book. I was in tears a couple of times reading it. Richard Deboo writes with real compassion and feeling for his subject matter and I don't think anyone reading this book could fail to be moved by his style, his content and his obvious passion for the animals he so cares about. This book raises some serious concerns about what we are doing to our planet, it's inhabitants, including ourselves and comes up with nine steps we can take to try and stop this wanton destruction. These issues are very real and we need to open our eyes to what is happening and the many trillions of animals killed every year and the millions of humans who die every year as a direct result of the meat and dairy industry. Things have to change and Richard Deboo shows us how this can be achieved. Brilliant.

This is a fantastically written book which picks apart the arguments used for defending meat consumption in an easily understandable way. The author's points are put across in an eloquent and intelligent manner and once you've read it, giving up animal products will not only make sense, but will be an easy thing to do. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an introduction to veganism and animal rights issues - there is even a handy further reading list at the back if you want to explore the issues further. It was also refreshing to read a book which addressed the UK perspective, there are many fantastic books on this issue written by American authors, but this one helps the UK 'that doesn't happen here' myth. Read it, you won't regret it!
