From Amazon.co.uk

This film represents Hugh Grant's first big bid at Hollywood stardom, on the heels of the success of Four Weddings and a Funeral. But he stumbled twice: first with this mundane comedy and then by being arrested after soliciting a prostitute near downtown Hollywood, the week before the film opened. Directed by Chris Columbus (Mrs. Doubtfire), Nine Months was a weak reworking of a French film about an ageing bachelor (Grant) who can't decide whether to commit to the woman he loves (Julianne Moore). When she becomes pregnant, he still can't make up his mind and winds up blowing hot and cold on the subject of fatherhood, which causes tension in the relationship. There's a lot of low comedy involving Grant's best friend; Tom Arnold plays this ultra-married and child-ridden suburbanite, who makes fatherhood look like a living hell. Robin Williams has a funny cameo as a foreign doctor but in the end, the sentiment is ladled on and Grant doesn't have nearly enough funny material to work with. --Marshall Fine

Product Description

When Sam Faulkner (Hugh Grant) is informed by his girlfriend Taylor (Julianne Moore) that he is to become a father his life is turned upside down, and for the next nine months he is left to undergo the trials and tribulations of impending fatherhood. Things get worse for him when he meets an overbearing couple (Joan Cusack and Tom Arnold) and their unruly children and he receives conflicting advice from his bohemian artist friend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny and cute 27 Jan 2006

Any expecting couple should enjoy this film, but even if a baby is not in the cards, you'll have fun with this one. Hugh is his clumsily-charming self, which makes you root for him, despite of himself. It deals with the male jitters of becoming a dad, and with hilarious scenes with a life-size Barney and the out-of-this world performance by Robin Williams as a Russian vet gone obgyn, all ends well, as a feel-good movie should. So, if you're a Hugh fan, or just like well-made comedies, you'll enjoy Nine Months for sure.

4.0 out of 5 stars Yes it's a feel good film! 11 Oct 2004

Yes it's cheezy, yes it's feel good, but if you're just looking for a film to wash over you and for you to enjoy snuggled up with someone or a night in with a good cup of tea this is it.
The jokes are cheezy and a bit predictable but they do make the movie what it is. If you're a pregnant couple you should definetly watch this!
To summarise the plot Sam (Hugh Grant) doesn't want kids, even though he is a child psychotherapist. He then finds that his girlfriend is pregnant and the film basically revolves around him trying to except it. I won't spoil the ending!
You don't need to work on this film to watch it. But if you just want a film to make you smile this is it.
Robin Williams character of a russian obstetric doctor is brilliant. and as a student nurse myself I just really enjoyed this film.

Julianne Moore is really lovely in this films. As a father and grandfather I felt protective towards her. Hugh Grant starts off being utterly selfish but finally sees the light.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great feel good comedy 15 May 2013

Even though Hugh Grant & Julianne Moore are the main stars in this film, for me Robin Williams as a Russian gynecologist steals the show... apart from the journey to the hospital, priceless every time I watch it!
Its ultimately a chick flick but it has that comic edge which guys can cling to. Give it a go and see for yourself...

3.0 out of 5 stars laugh out loud in spite of yourself! 6 Jun 2011

We bought this film in the french version (living in France) BUT it also had the original version on the DVD - so something we could watch in our native language - for really no other reason! Anyway we like Hugh Grant, Joan Cusack (Grosse Point Blank - THE best film ever!) Julianne Moore and Jeff Goldblum. Since I can't stand Robin Williams I tried to be unamused by the terrible slapstick scenes with him in - however I have to say that I found myself laughing out loud and warmed to his character in the end.
The film cannot have been too bad as I found it elicitied a range of emotions and the male characters, although comic, were well played (in my opinion). As others have written, the fight scene in the toy shop IS very amusing.
I don't think we'll rush to watch it again but it was good in parts and entertaining - which is what it's all about.
