"Nine" is the third studio release from Norway's excellent progressive metal act Circus Maximus; I personally, would rate this particular group pretty highly indeed, since their first two albums of the last decade were both very very good albums;-particularly "Isolate" which boasted and showcased a very metal "circus" orientated stamp that confirmed C.M as an established and trademark sounding band. The difference found between the first and second albums was pretty large, but this time they have progressed things to an even further extent from their second album to arrive at at the perfect progressional stop. So after a 5 year wait then, (which is a very long time by any stretch) will indicate whether things have truly turned out for the best and crucially how it all measures up. How has time management and brilliance been utilized back in the C.M studio burrow.?

To get straight to the point here, the answer is most definitely and simply, a resounding "yes". Nine is indeed the sound of a quality musical spectacle in immaculately produced and supplied progressive metal,/ straight out of the box. A 10 minute prog epic sit alongside with welcome and pleasant ballads, along familiar but dynamic and constantly shifting heavy prog- fests. Absolutely no standouts on Nine, but all of these musical compliments are just as satisfying as the last and are the result of a very focused and meticulously arranged work of art. "Nine" is also a very mature offering, with a distinctive, stylistic and natural sounding progressive addition to their previous excellence, in this musical field which shows that they have handled the transition in it's entirety very well, whilst keenly leaving the "playing it safe card" firmly at the door in the process.

The 3rd album from Circus Maximus, it`s very easy to write a review for this absolute wonder of a prog metal band. It`s very different from the first 2 albums which were also masterpieces in their own right, yet it is by far 2012`s best album, it might be the 2000`s best album to date. It has no hitches, every single track is superbly written and the melodies are varied and great, the songs stick like glue. I get that people might find it popish for a prog metal band but i urge you to sit down and listen to it 2-3 more times. The more you hear it the better it gets.

It's been a while since Circus Maximus last studio album. back on 2007 "Isolate" left me with the strong feeling this band would surprise me again with their forecoming work. Well, I must say that "Nine" is a lot more than what I've expected. There are nine proper tracks where you can hear and feel their ever-growing sound and technique combined with a strong sense of what high quality rock and metal are.

I really recommend this album to everyone, it is the proof that Circus Maximus is one the most interesting bands on the actual scene.

Wow! I was expecting something like this when I first heard about the release of this third album. To be honest it took a couple of listenings to grow on me but now I'm totally hooked on "nine". If you liked their first two records just go for this one. It's not the same. Maybe a little bit more "popish" but it still holds the heavy melodies of the previous releases. Lyrics are great as well. The progressive album of the year. No doubt!!!

DISAPPOINTING THIRD RELEASE FROM THIS TALENTED MELODIC POWER METAL BAND OUT OF NORWAY.FIVE YEARS SINCE "ISOLATE" THEY BACK WITH THIS UNINSPIRED,LINEAR,BORING AND MUCH TOO LONG ALBUM.THE LACK OF IDEAS AND INSPIRATION ARE OBVIOUS ON THIS ONE.SADLY,I CAN'T HEAR STRONG COMPOSITIONS WITH CLEVER ARRANGEMENTS AND MEMORABLE CHORUSES.THE ARTWORK AND THE NAME OF THE RECORD ARE AWFUL."THE 1ST CHAPTER" STILL IS THEIR LANDMARK OPUS.SAVE YOUR MONEY IN THE POCKET!
