Product Description

Nina Ottosson Dog Tornado Interactive Dog GameThe idea behind the 'Dog Tornado' is for the dog to dislodge the removable bones, then turn the revolving sections to reveal hidden treats. The Tornado has many variables to increase the level of difficulty as the dogs skill improves. pWith a little practise, he will soon learn to dislodge the bones and turn the Tornado to access the rewards. pFeatures:ulliSkill level - hardliliTough and hard wearingo:po:pliliWater, dishwasher and slobber proofo:po:pliliAnti- slip feeto:po:pliulThe level of difficulty for the Tornado can be varied, depending upon the dogs experience and his enthusiasm for the game. pobject width="320" height="260"param name="movie" value="http:www.youtube.comv1hxNN754mKs&hl=en&fs=1"paramparam name="allowFullScreen" value="true"paramparam name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"paramembed src="http:www.youtube.comv1hxNN754mKs&hl=en&fs=1" type="applicationx-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="260"embedobjectpstrongTop TipsstrongpolliIt may help to have the dog on a lead (a lightweight Houseline is ideal) when first introducing the Interactive Dog Games, to encourage controlled play. liliKeep play sessions short and fun, always trying to end on a positive, successful note. liliRather than using lots of extra treats, encourage the dog to learn to earn by giving part of his daily ration of food in the Interactive Dog Game. liliTo encourage your dog just to use his nose try placing the toy on a higher surface e.g. a chair, this is also good if your dog is recovering from an injury. liliIf the dog has already been taught Target Training, then it is possible to teach him to dislodge the bones by either his nose or paw on command. Smart dogs can even switch between the two. liliHave fun! liol

We already used the Nina Ottosson 'Brick' toy and found it to be excellent so I was happy to spend the money on this game.

It's a more complicated than the others in the range and it took our young lab a few minutes to work it out even with the instructions given with the game. As with the other game, she can spend up to 20 minutes playing this without being bored. The game is excellent for reinforcing obedience training and encouraging good manners. It's manipulated with nose and paws and it takes a little skill on the dogs part to work out. It might be a bit too difficult for some breeds of dog, such as my mothers lovely and well loved cross breed who is blessed with a waggy tail and a wonderful personality but not much sense - he looks at the game, looks at a human and begs for the game to be opened for him. If that sounds like your dog, this isn't the game for him or her and you should try one of the simpler games in the range. The tornado is the most difficult for the dog to manipulate and as a result tires out our dog. We've certainly noticed a decrease in the destructive behaviour labs are notorious for in their first few years. Snap this game up - you will never regret it.

Fun for all 12 July 2011
By LyndS
I bought this after seeing it at puppy class. Our three labradors love it. They paw at the box to play with the toy. The youngest girl worked out the puzzle very quickly, but this hasn't made her lose interest. Just made us have to think more how to make it harder for her! You can vary where you hide the treat, how many treats and how you interact to supervise the way the dogs get to the treats. Our oldest just turns the whole thing over to shake out the treats but this doesn't get them all out as it is a well thought out design. Our middle girl thinks the game is to run off with the bones so you have to stop that quickly otherwise the puzzle won't work. This isn't a toy you would leave the dog to play with alone, you are part of the game then it is fun for all. We probably use it every couple of days for up to 15-20 minutes. It gives them something to think about when it is bad weather outside!

I am a huge fan of Nina Ottosson toys. Yes, they are expensive for a dog toy but they are unique and built to last.

This was the first toy that I bought in this range for my Labrador and it proved to be a huge hit instantly. I filled the bone shaped holes on all three layers with single pieces of her normal dry dog food and then twisted the each layer so that at least two of the holes were completely open. I wanted to get her used to putting her nose into the toy and retrieving the reward.

After a few goes we progressed to filling all the spaces and twisting the layers so that each of the holes were only partially showing. She soon realised that there were treats in all of them and happily twisted each layer until she got all of them.

Eventually you can progress to completely closing the toy back into its original bone shape and then your dog has to twist every layer. As a final level of difficulty you can put one of the white plastic removable bones into a hole so that the toy doesn't twist until it is removed. My lab seems pretty bright and can remove the bones on one of the other toys but it seemed to baffle her on this one so we have stuck to just closing it up.

She doesn't really have any method to getting the treats she just pushes the layers round and round until she gets one. She uses her nose a lot to tell if there are any left. Towards the end when it gets pretty hard to find the last one she has been known to try brute force and try tipping the toy over but it is so stable that she has never managed to turn it upside down.

The plastic is easy to wash and keep clean - this is important if your dog gets excited and slobbers a lot as mine does.

I have read in other reviews that some dogs find this toy a lot harder to use than others in the range such as the Brick toy. I can only comment on how my own dog found it to be and she didn't really have any problems as I introduced what to do in stages.

It is great for giving her a mental workout - it does cut down on the amount of mischief she can get herself into otherwise.
