This book is a great history of this iconic British aircraft and a fitting tribute to it. I spent thirteen years in the RAF and seven of those were at Kinloss working in Air Traffic, Base Ops and the ARCC. I was not aircrew but feel every proud of my time spent with the "Kipper Fleet".
The book is well written and illustrated and gives an excellent journey through the Nimrod's service life while also entertaining through the description of the banter and humour that was an essential part of the Nimrod world, its crews and support personnel. The fact that most people associate Nimrod with the crash of XV230 and the MRA4 is tragic, this aircraft and the personnel who flew, maintained and supported it played a vital part in our national interests for over 40 years. After the last jet fewl off into retirement, and the MRA4's were butchered by this short sighted Government I was looking for a good read on the aircraft and its role. Norman deserved a good tribute and for me this is it.
An excellent read, a fitting tribute to one of the most underrated and vital aircraft of the cold war. Should have come with a free DCS* though, would have made it fly off the shelves.
* = Dairy Cream Sponge. A staple of Nimrod aircrew for many years. Finding one in the galley of a Nimrod upon landing was like finding a politician telling the truth !!
