Such a disappointment,
By
This review is from: Nimrod: The Centenarian Aircraft (Paperback)
Whilst I agree with the previous reviewer that I wasn't expecting such a significant amount of information about this book to be about the Comet, that isn't what disappointed me so much about this book
This book had the opportunity to be the definitive article on an aircraft that has been supremely significant for the RAF for the last 40 years - and yet it doesn't achieve this at all. Whilst the book tries to cover all the variants of the Nimrod, this is undertaken at such a high level as to be not worth the money. THere is no interviews with crew, there is no content related to operations in the Falklands - in fact there isn't a lot of merit in this book at all. And then there are all the errors, such as the Gulf war taking place in 1971 - for such a respected author this is doesn't do him proud.

50% Nimrod,

This review is from: Nimrod: The Centenarian Aircraft (Paperback)
The title is misleading, as the first half is all Comet. The amount of ground covered means the content is thinly spread. However, I enjoyed the overview of the development programmes. I think the editing/proof reading left something to be desired. On page 100 a Nimrod is reported as landing at Lossie with an engine fire. On p 108 the actual incident - a ditching in the Moray Firth - is correctly reported. I think a nit-picker could have a field day. The inclusion of a Transport Commmand passenger chit took me back. This is Bill's 383rd book - Wow!
