Its all been said before. Nils Lofgren is one of the best guitarists of his generation, either plugged or unplugged. This two cd live set is a wonderful showcase for his range (Rockers like "Daddy Dream", "Slippery Fingers" "Gun and Run" - Ballads like "Girl in Motion", "Two by Two" "Drifting Man") and also covers most of his career from Grin, Crazy Horse through the 70's, 80's and 90's solo years and new material. There's even a studio cover of the Ewan MaCall/Roberta Flack "The First Time Ever....". It also goes to remind me that Nils is not just a commensurate and innovative rock guitarist, but he's also got a great set of pipes. He doesn't scream, holler, bawl or strangle a lyric, he just lets it flow easily.
If you already have other Nils live sets, this is a good addition as the selection of material is quite diverse, tending to steer away from some of the best known and oft played material (No "Cry Tough", "Keith Don't....", "No Mercy") but that just adds to the interest. If, on the other hand, you haven't yet had the pleasure and are just interested, give it a go. Whilst I think some other better known guitarists (Knopfler, Santana, Clapton even)are obviously wonderful players, they can be a bit predictable and at times dull. Nils Lofgren brings a great deal of energy, fluidity and variety to his playing and this set delivers that in spades. As always, highly recommended without reservation.
