It does everything it says it can do. Great for all leather and especially walking boots. After using this on leather boots through the worst weather for years I cannot recommend it enough, it is absolutely amazing. My husbands boots (also purchased from Amazon) look as good as the day they were bought. No white lines - no loss of shine - this product should carry a true recommended sign on it.

I have always used the tins of Nikwax to waterproof and condition our hiking boots - with excellent results. Sadly it appears that these are no longer available (why!!??) Instead I ordered this 'water-based' wax (which sounds a bit contradictory to me). It is much harder work to apply, requiring more effort to rub it in. It leaves the leather feeling rather slimy. Whether it is as effective as a waterproofer remains to be seen: but I MUCH preferred the old product, which did a brilliant job.

Originally I bought Nikwax in the small button tin similar to shoe polish but ran out of it.Nikwax Waterproofing Wax for Leather Liquid - 125ml As I usually buy in bulk (6 + tins)what i had, lasted for some time, went to buy some more and Shop owner sold me some of this stuff and said it was a direct replacement for the older wax paste I used, IT ISNT, it may go on easier and is less messy but it doesnt last as long and a week spent hiking in Austria proved it. I needed to use 3 tubes of this stuff reapplying it every day, whereas 1 tin of the old wax would last for a season i can see this stuff needing to be reapplied at every outing and costing me 4 times more. Sorry Nikwax but will be changing to Grangers, give the customer what they want and sales will continue, decide what you want to sell and what customers need without consultation and they will leave in droves.

Is it a really good product ?
I have used the Nikwax - Grangers tubs of wax in the past, (like the tubs of floor polish) and have gone off them as the wax seems to go hard and I wondered if pushing it into gaps makes things worse.
This paste, like mustard, needs a bit of a shake & squeeze (I find) before use as sometimes it looks a bit watery like there are wax particles suspended in water. I always rub it on with my fingers and sometimes use an old toothbrush around the lace anchors. I like the fact that it says it can be used on wet boots and is environment friendly. I haven't used it on wet boots.
On my new boots it seems very good, the leather is as new, so a buff up makes them look fine. Being new boots with a waterproof membrane it is hard to tell how much of the work is being done by the Nikwax.
My older boots have rougher leather and have had different products applied over time. I use this Nikwax too and have seen damp patches on socks after longer wet walks. Those boots are suppose to have a membrane too.
I think I will continue to buy this. Another benefit is that it doesn't stink the kitchen out if I use it when the gas cooker is on, the other solvent based polishes / waxes do.
Then... I also have an old pair of shoes for dog walking over the fields, these have gaps in places on the sides of the soles. What seems very good is the thick wax, Kiwi / Cherry Blossom (?) from Wilkinson. They have just started selling the clear type again, not just the black. A friend also uses it on his old boots and says it's very good.

This isn't a great product. It is iffy. It will make water bead and run off smooth sections of un-stitched leather but it does not prevent water entering at the seams and edges via capillary action. I'm not even sure it slows down the water ingress. I would give it a go if the shoe in question has a one-piece toe cap and is moulded into a rubber sole. However, for shoes with stitching and detail in the toe-piece, the sealant doesn't work.

Reading some of the reviews of other products I was put off by the elaborate instructions on how to best use the products. I love my Karrimor boots but want to be in-and-out, no fuss, no worry! Well this is the product for you if you think alike. I brushed my boots, cleaned off the worst dirt and grit, applied Nikwax and off I went for a rainy days hike, and it did a great job and my boots look great too. EASY!
